Mom outraged as her daughter, 7, is given henna TATTOOS on school 'multicultural' day'
Daily Mail ^

A Texas mother is speaking out after her daughter's school gave the young girl a henna tattoo the week before Christmas.

Tammy Samour was shocked when she picked up her daughter Leah, 7, from Ed White Elementary School in Houston and saw the second grader's hands covered in the designs, which are traditionally applied to the hands and feet of women during Hindu ceremonies and festivals.

That shock soon turned to outrage however as Ms. Samour says she never gave the school permission to tattoo Leah - and now the brown paste will not wash off her hands. It can take several days before the vegetable dye fades.

Ms. Samour also said that connections she discovered between the Hindu and Muslim faiths were of concern to her when she decided to do further research on the tattoo.

It is also forbidden. Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Lev 19:28

Does that include nail polish?

“For shame!”

Well, their attitude probably is a holdover from the days when parents could trust school administrators and teachers.

I’d be ticked off also. That is some ugly henna tattooing.

The multi-cultural festivals have been in schools for many years, and are designed to show kids about the different ways and traditions of other countries. Parents are usually invited to the school on this day.

Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.

Send the kid to school for brainwashing, get her home with a henna rinse on her hands.

Face painting washes off immediately.and is almost always done with an adoring parent at the child's side. Henna tattoos take many days to fade.

Also! The school was teaching a NON-neutral religious, cultural, and political lesson that was in conflict with the worldview taught in the home.

These henna tattoos condition the child to be comfortable with permanent tattoos,( which, by the way, are against the teachings of my personal religion.)

These henna tattoos risk teaching the child to be comfortable with practices found in a non-American culture. This is a culture that is not Christian and does use tattoos for religious reasons.

Fundamentally, it is **impossible** for any school to be neutral ( religiously, culturally, or politically) therefore government should get **out** of the schooling business. We should begin to move toward privatizing all schooling in this nation.

The henna complaint is stupid,

Schools have no right to apply tats - semi-permanent or otherwise - to the children.

For some reason these morons think it is their job to teach children about diversity. They should be teaching the kids reading and math.

Years ago, when I wrote that Catholics do not tattoo (or should not), I was excoriated! But it is true: Jews and Christians should not.

Nail polish is not permanent scarring or permanent tattooing.

By including permanent scarring in the same sentence with “print any marks”, I conclude that this means permanent tattooing.

Government schooling is **not** politically, culturally, or religiously neutral. No school can be. Such a state of philosophic neutrality can not exist in the mind of any sentient human.

Even if this child did not get a henna tattoo she was in an environment where other children were getting them. She is still at risk of becoming comfortable with tattooing and comfortable with the practice of a culture that does not conform with her parent's political, cultural, and religious worldview.

It is impossible for any government school to resolve this conflict of worldviews.

Solution: Begin the process of privatizing all schooling in this nation.

Henna is difficult to remove. It takes several days for it to fade.

Ive always wanted to get henna myself. Very beautiful, in my opinion

Well, come on by. But of course I get to choose the what and where involved in our little henna/beautification day. Or days.

See, I refuse to work with anyone who wishes to opt in, out, or have any opinion at all about what I'm up to. What I want is what you get. In other words I would treat you like a seven-year-old child.

We good?

Let's look at the issue of nail polish. Is that neutral? No, it isn't.

There are many religions, some Christian sects and non-Christian religions, who proscribe its use. And...It is rare to see men in our nation wearing nail polish because it is an American cultural taboo.

So?...What happens when a small child ( some so young they are barely out of diapers) is forced by the government into an environment where others are sporting very pretty painted nails? And, it is even worn by a small minority of boys.

It is emotionally cruel for the government to tempt a child in this way. It is emotional child abuse to undermine a child's confidence in his family's values.

Nail Polish is not religiously, culturally, or politically neutral. Even simple nail polish is not neutral!

Solution: Begin the process of getting government out of education.

To all the posters saying no big deal, parents are stupid ....

Put a henna tatto of a battle flag on your kids hands or arm, in the open and get back with me on how the school reacts. Child protective services will be up your ass, police will be called ....

The school is way out of bounds and all the people who think this is acceptable curriculum for a school, your nuts and part of the problem.

“This sounds like a a soccer mom got all bent out of shape because she’s ignorant or stupid.”

Why is she “ignorant or stupid”? If this had happened to one of my kids without my permission, I’d be up in arms, too.

As conservatives, we should be banding together to demand power be taken AWAY from the agenda-laden leftist indoctrination crowd that laughingly call themselves “teachers” - not granting them the power to do whatever they please with our children.

“The school points out however that they did notify parents that their children would be getting henna tattoos as part of Multicultural Day...”

Well, there’s a friggin’ joke. Is there any day in our public schools that ISN’T “Multicultural Day”?

Nail polish is not permanent scarring or permanent tattooing.

Neither is a henna tattoo. It may last a few days or even week or so but it is not permanent. But my point was if the mother is so concerned about her daughter's appearance, then why the chipped nail polish, different colors on different fingers? Not that I am against nail polish, thus along with my pierced ears, proving I'm some sort of heathen.

Even if this child did not get a henna tattoo she was in an environment where other children were getting them. She is still at risk of becoming comfortable with tattooing and comfortable with the practice of a culture that does not conform with her parent's political, cultural, and religious worldview.

You can't and shouldn't really shelter a child forever and keep them completely away from others who may practice things that does not conform with her or her parent's political, cultural, and religious worldview. A child brought up in such a way, as an adult will have no understanding and no defense of such when she finally gets out in the big bad world.

I'm not saying that I think the school was right either. It sounds to me that they didn't communicate to the parents what henna was or even if they knew it wouldn't wash off like paint. Stupid on their part. But the girl is not scarred for life either. A reasonable parent might have complained but also used it as a learning opportunity with their daughter about what is and isn't acceptable. Of course they also have the option to home school or send their daughter to a religious parochial school if that is their choice.

Let's look at the issue of nail polish. Is that neutral? No, it isn't. It is emotionally cruel for the government to tempt a child in this way. It is emotional child abuse to undermine a child's confidence in his family's values. Nail Polish is not religiously, culturally, or politically neutral. Even simple nail polish is not neutral!

I don't think the government or the school had anything to do with the girl wearing (oh the horrors and cruelty of) nail polish!

Take a deep breath and relax. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
