Game of Thrones will change the way sexual violence is depicted on screen following a barrage of complaints about a controversial rape scene last season. Critics and viewers were outraged after Sansa Stark, played by 19-year-old English actress Sophie Turner, was raped by Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) on their wedding night. The scene, which aired in May, was part of a story arc which did not appear in the novels. It was criticized for being gratuitous, played for shock value and serving no narrative purpose. But, speaking at an event at Fox Studios Australia, director Jeremy Podeswa, who directed the graphic episode, said 'a couple of things had changed' in light of the response from viewers.

I’ve watched this show, and the thing with Stansa Stark was not rape, unless you want to use some feminist definition of rape. Sure, the guy was a psychopath, but she knew that going in, and consented to marry him anyway for some Machiavellian reason that I can’t remember, then consented to the sex on the marriage night. It was obvious that she expected it to be unpleasant, as he was a known psychopath, but she went through with it anyway, and, while we hear her make sounds of pain, never, during the whole scene, do we hear her ask him to stop. I think the whole “rape” uproar regarding that scene was due more to the unfiltered show of her submission to her new husband, and, of course, feminists and the Left in general are intensely uncomfortable with the idea of a woman submitting to a man ever.
The George R Martin books are intended to show the horrors of war, medieval feuds, etc.
And the TV show leaves out a number of rapes in the books where characters saw rape as one of the spoils of war.
And the “marriage” scene in the show was actually LESS bad than the scene in the books.
The books detail how horrible rape is to women and men, how physical torture and abuse dehumanize and demean people ... it is a long morality play on the aftermath of war and how that makes war evil.
The whole argument that the sex scenes in Game of Thrones being unacceptable in promoting a rape culture ignores who the books make readers realize who bad rape is.
Then again, it is like liberals screaming about rape culture by labeling everyone who disagrees with them as a rapist, proving that there is no rape culture if that’s the debate is the worst thing they face.
Maybe you should actually watch the show before you crap on someone’s parade. You have no clue... George R. R. M. even talks about European monarchy as his inspiration for the books. The show barely touches on some of the content.
Jon Snow crawled under a dumpster and survived.
I am only waiting for Ramsey Bolton to be killed. I haven’t wished a more violent end for anybody since King Joffrey.
Hey, don't be bringing things like facts into this!
Or he could be run down by dogs.
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN! CHOOOO CHOOOOOOO!
>>If Jon really is killed off, of course, it gets more complicated<<
“What is Ned may never die.”
