Holiday tree, holiday list..this holiday, blah blah. I want to throw my shoes at those insulting commercials demanding that we buy for some unmentioned gift giving day.

Missing Dominick the Christmas Donkey, are you? Well, that makes one of us.

Maybe Kathy can work some of these silly tunes into the Canteen this weekend or next.

WQXR, the NYC classical station has an all holiday tunes thing going on their website (and app).

I haven’t checked it out, but you can find them at wqxr.org

Sirius pretty much s*cks, I’m coming to conclude. I’m just afraid to give it up, since regular radio ain’t much better. God bless WQXR and WBGO (jazz out of Newark).

“Run DMC’s “Christmastime in Hollis”

Great tune! Actually had a friend who lived in Hollis, she was actually a Jewish gal, but of course she loved that song too.

Run has a cooking show now on Cooking TV, “Rev Run’s Sunday Dinners” hubby finally figured out it was the guy from the group.

So, man did that make us feel old!

Ugh. I think I know that version. I’m sorry you were subjected to it.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks, jocon. I listen to WQXR in the car. The reception in my house (Suffolk County, Long Island) isn’t very good.

I can’t get WBGO at home at all.

Merry Christmas!

It is not that I am missing most of these songs, just like I do not miss choking on cigarette smoke but I question why they are not to be heard.

Would it make my life better if they rounded up certain people and got rid of them, perhaps, but I would worry about ending up on one of those lists myself. I understand freedom of speech as well as other freedoms require me to sometimes endure what I do not care for, like Dominic the Christmas Donkey, which I had happily forgotten about until you brought it up and created an ear worm song for me. THANKS!

Give me some titles and I’ll see what I have or can find.

It would be fun.

And I just found “Dominick The Italian Christmas Donkey” in my library. d:o)

Now that you mention it, my station plays nothing but serious Christmas songs. I get a lot of Dean Martin, Perry Como, and Bing Crosby, though.

Oh, and Johnny Mathis

Yes Virginia, Now Santa is dead
Some guy from the SWAT team
blew a hole through his head.
Yes little friend now,
that’s his brains on the floor,
I guess they won’t have the fat guy kicking around anymore.

Just about everyone has heard Eartha Kitt's 1953 recording "Santa Baby." Here is the follow-on, which is not heard as often, from 1954.
