Still have outhouses though. Except we call them PortaPottys® now. ;-)

When I visited York (the old one), I was amazed walking around in the Shambles, that the road is actually laid out so you can toss your chamber pot out the window and the stuff travels down an indentation in the sidewalk to the river.
