Is Trump Leading a Genuine Political Movement?
The Fiscal Times ^ | December 7, 2015 | By Rob Garver

What Donald Trump is doing in the Republican presidential primary is increasingly being called a "movement," both by Trump himself and by conservative commentators, whether they like where he's trying to take the GOP or not. However, according to one long-time student of political movements and leadership, the Trump "movement" may not be worthy of the name.

And the criticism isn’t coming from some leftist ideologue who instinctively backs away from Trump because he is energizing elements of the far right. It's coming from former eight-term Oklahoma Congressman Mickey Edwards, a founding trustee of the conservative Heritage Foundation and former national chairman of the American Conservative Union.

I was at his Rally in Raleigh NC this past Friday and I can tell you it is a movement! People were coming into the over crowded rally even as it was ending. 7 groups or individuals were booed out especially the BLM crowds and the illegals supporters.

Calling Trump's appeal a "Movement" might be premature, but "President Donald Trump" appears to be inevitable. We've seen it before, but nothing quite like this.

I watched then Gov. Bill Clinton give his convention speech and it was obvious he was going to be the next president. You just knew it and Bush, the elder, didn't stand a chance against him.

Barry obama rolled in with his race, his special talents and a very different sort of fanfare backing him and it was obvious he was going to be the next president. Who could stop him? McCain? Seriously?? Lol...

Clinton at least had experience as Governor, along with his astroturf rug burns and cigars, to back up his raw charismatic appeal, but obama has the Chicago way and people with very deep pockets in the highest shadows pulling his strings from behind the curtain.

The oligarchs have purchased US by proxy and are remaking US in their own image.

And we, the people, who live in the mess they and the Bush family all have made, are more than ready for the right someone for US to get behind and clean things up and restore our way.

We know from decades of experience that politicians see a need or a problem and they talk about it. Talking about problems and the needs of voters gets them votes. Satisfying needs and fixing problems are optional and are often counter-productive.

A business person lives in a merit-based world and sees those same needs and problems differently. A business person who satisfies needs and solves problems successfully is valued and in demand. You could say that such a person spreads their success around. It's just common sense and it's very good business.

A business person who talks a lot but solves nothing fails and goes out of business, which is the opposite of a politician.

We have had enough of the talkers and the oligarchs they've sold US to fundamentally transforming our American dream.

No more talkers! The business of America is going bankrupt and we, the people, are ready for a doer.

Anybody like that running for President?

Look out. They might just start a Movement!

Trump is applying Alinsky tactics back at them. The first time a Republican had the courage and intelligence to do it better than they have been doing it to us for decades.

I’ve seen you post things comparing Trump’s winning tactics to the left’s and seen many more posts explaining to you how Alinsky and Coward-Piven work.

Yet you still keep reporting the same thing, thread after thread.

You either have no understanding of Alinskyism or your candidate has so few redeeming qualities that you have to attack others with fake issues. Sad.

Thanks for the report.

I’m glad to see crowds handling the hecklers. Trump is empowering people to quit being PC and stand up for our country-and he’s not even president yet!

I’ve posted thousands of words, they are there to find it you have the intellectual curiosity to find them....but rest assured, since I know the totality of my words and you do not, I am correct when I say that your analysis is absurd.

You think you bother me enough for me to go to that much trouble? No, you’re not that significant to me.

The guy’s an idiot.

As for a ‘movement’: he’s right that there are so many things our political system is doing wrong today that there is no one, or few, specific clear aims to Trump’s supporters.

There are just so many things wrong that conservatives and moderates can agree on.

awwww, once again you don’t get the irony. I have no interest in searching for your nasty comments. I don’t know what you don’t want to bother to do... but don’t care either.
