The First Amendment was written for handwriting, the spoken word, and manual print presses.

The founding fathers never envisioned television, radio, the internet, and voice recordings.

(Just making the flintlock argument)

Without the Second Amendment, there won’t be a First Amendment.

Why did you waste your time with this response?

Because it's a good response to use against liberals when they try to tell us that the 2nd Amendment isn't relevant any more.

The current anti-gun campaign based on terror attacks really highlights the point that the veteran is making - if we really need to constrain citizens to stop terrorism, and take away fundamental liberties, why don't we start with the 1st Amendment.

If the situation is bad enough to require Americans to surrender their freedom why not start by reducing religious freedom? Instead of background checks for gun purchases how about background checks for anyone preaching at a mosque, or other similar religious facility?

Somehow I don't think that idea will appear on the front page of the New York Times, even though it might be more effective than any regulations aimed at the 2nd Amendment.

The bill of rights is not just something you just throw out the window like a piece of trash! Cause you will never get them back again! If you give up even one of those rights then you destroy all the other ones too. Each one is just as important as the next because they all hold each other together against the laws of man.

These muslims are committing treason against the united states by trying to overthrow our constitution. I think we can start arresting them for that without compromising the bill of rights.

Actually it was originally meant for signs like broken twigs, arrows etc which conveyed meaning, and never for writing, speaking, recording voice, TV, Radio etc

The Second Amendment remains relevant because we will always have TYRANTS who want to erase the other 9 Amendments.

The 2nd is the one most emphatic. It is the one that is absolute. There is nothing about the Congress shall make no law. it says Shall Not Be Infringed. That includes everyone and every institution, not just Congress.

And Obama's DOJ has declared open war on both in the last week...

I am not so sure anymore. There is a recent college grad that got hired at my company that makes me wonder how much time the republic has left. He, and I assume many others of his type, are perfectly okay with freely giving up free speech. He also doesn’t see a problem with letting the government, and especially a president do whatever they want. He is a cradle to grave supporter. The more the others support him, the less he needs to. He is unwavering in those beliefs.

You cannot have a rational discussion with an irrational mind. I fear we have a bumper crop of irrational minds.
