The wife and I Purchased an electric car about a month ago.
I'm as far as a tree hugger as you can get but we needed a vehicle.
Our son will be starting collage soon so a another vehicle was needed.
Her total commute is close to 6 miles, the car had 2,560 miles when we bought it.
it's a 2012, fairly well equipped with air, power windows, mirrors, power locks, heated seats, etc.
Since the range is only an estimated 62 miles it works for us.
My Car is not restricted on distance since it's petroleum powered so it should work out nicely.
7,750$ for a car that listed @ 23,850 in 2012 looked pretty good.
I had net ever heard about this car it's known as a i miev.
That’s why it was a no brainer,we have other cars which are not limited on miles.
and you’ll keep your Hummer
There is a reason why electric cars went out of fashion around 1920. Roads began to connect towns and they couldnât not go those distances. A model T was good for pavement or muddy roads and easy as heck to take care of. My Dadâs first motor vehicle was a motorbike, his second a model-T.
My commute is under two miles. I drive in comfort in a 15 year old Suburban. I top off the gas tank once a month whether I need to or not.
Freergards, Yankee.
I can’t really consider an EV b/c I live in a condo so there are no home charging options. Nor work charging options either.
Until charging is no longer a consideration for those w/o a garage, EVs will never make it for everyone. Charging at work only works for you if you are there. Being away from the work charging facility, such as going on vacation, and you’re SOL there, too.
Good luck w/ your EV.
We’ve contemplated buying one for a short, daily, in-town commute. We may buy a Segway, instead, depending on which house we buy.
I agree. Conservatives have been at the heart of much of mankind’s innovation. But a true test of the viability of an idea is if it can stand on its own accord.
Electric vehicles support an array of niche markets. Gasoline-powered vehicles support a wider array. Both have their purpose - and their limitations. I object to government coming in and tilting the playing field in order to influence the market. They have zero business intruding.
As an aside, I thought the price of the vehicle interesting. Someone took a bath (in addition to the US taxpayer who subsidized that thing).
There is an outfit up in Tennessee that makes a vehicle called a “Rhoades Car”. It is a four-wheel pedal powered vehicle, that comes in various configurations, from a single-person one-seater, to a four-passenger version, in which all the passengers have a a pedal crank, to pull their own weight. There is also another more advanced version that uses an electric-motor assist, with a canopy, lights, and a solar recharging panel, the Rhoades SOLARped Series, new eco-friendly solar powered model that uses the solar panel to recharge the battery pack. About $7,000, plus shipping.
It doesn’t take a tree hugger to want to eliminate a dependency on gas to fill our vehicles.
>>3 miles in New England could be the equivalent of 50.
Yeah. I lived in CT when I was in the Navy. I just assumed that you were talking about road miles and not miles as the crow flies, because your car has to do the road miles.
OK, will do, but my luck might not be any better than yours.
Mitsubishi Electric Car.
You got it for a good price.
Nothing wrong with Electric Cars. As other Posters mentioned, the issue is the Government Subsidies. Why should the Taxpayer be paying the Down Payment for a Person who chooses to buy an Electric?
Makes no sense, but neither do Ethanol Subsidies.
Very interesting how it performs, regenerative braking and all that.
The wife is finding quite interesting.
Those are really Kewl. The 3 wheelers would look really good cruising the retirement community.
Is it all uphill and never any downhill equivalent ?
I don’t know yet but it should be comparable with gas here @ 2.15 a gallon.
