Vanity - Has anyone seen "The Man in The High Castle"? It started yesterday on Amazon.
Please post any reviews.
I agree about Fargo. It’s great. Better than last year even. The Butcher and his wife ... great totally bumbling clueless couple.
The series is well done, good production values and maybe even slightly better than the book but not anything that had me doing a Tom Cruise (jumping on the couch ya know).
Bump
Although some story elements are left out or truncated in the Amazon film, these are understandable edits. I have not watched the entire series, but what I've seen is very good.
I watched the first (only one available at the time) episode.
It was interesting. I like to binge-watch, so am waiting for all the episodes to go up on Amazon Prime.
Anyone else think the novel isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially compared to his best novels.
I watched the first episode months ago (they were offering one episode free.) I didnât want to pay for the rest, but now that itâs on Amazon Prime, I might give it a go.”
I have Amazon Prime and I watched the complete first season. It is a scary world where US patriots are hunted and tortured, as well as their families.
I saw the first episode last year when it first came out but I haven’t started watching again since the new episodes were just now posted.
Fargo rocks!
I eagerly await season 3 of Turn
Love that show!
Ditto, on Turn. Love that show.
The previews of Man in High Castle look great. I have Azn Prime, so I’ll have to check this out.
I will prolly watch it on solarmovie or 1 channel
Why is Hollywierd doing a fantasy about America in need of rescue from the Nazis — when we are genuinely in need of rescue from the Communists?
It's a classic SF novel.
You might as well ask why make the Martian invasion story "The War of the Worlds" into a movie when we have enemies here at home.
It's entertainment for one thing.
There's also an intriguing "counterfactual history" angle that you don't get in movies or novels about the present-day.
I saw the pilot during the evaluation period, where they were evaluating different shows. I really liked it. There was another Amazon show that featured a group of people who were stranded in a parking garage during some sort of a mysterious event, who then escaped to a mansion. I don’t recall the name of that, but it seemed interesting too. I don’t know if Amazon picked that one up.
I’m looking forward to The Man in the High Castle. I’ll check it out tomorrow.
Mark
Get back to me when Hollywood makes a series about the very real communist takeover of America.
Just keep watching tv while the country burns...oooh, those wascily Nazis!

Charles (love your screen name!)— since you’ve seen several episodes, what do you think of it for kids? We homeschool, and I frequently use movies as a “jumping off point” for our lessons. Our boys have a nodding acquaintance with WWII but I think this would really spur their interest. (I used Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” as a discussion point for both WWI & WWII, for example.)
They like movies like Avengers, Ant Man, etc., so are okay with action & some violence. (They’d probably be okay with a lot more violence, actually, but Mama isn’t! LOL!) Also I don’t want to expose them to overt sexuality at their age. Anyway, if you could mention what you thought of the episodes you saw, thinking specifically of kids, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
So far (five episodes), no violence or blood beyond the average action movie fare. There are a few torture scenes, but they seem more tame than weekly crime drama content (The Blacklist, etc.). Despite the Nudity warning at the beginning of each episode, there hasn’t really been much skin on display. I’m sure the series will earn that warning label at some point, so be sure to preview each episode.
