Full title: 'Christmas is a charade': Pope says atrocities such as Paris massacre have made festivities meaningless in a world which has chosen 'war and hate'... The Pope has called Christmas a 'charade' during a sermon in which he reflected on recent atrocities around the world. Among the acts of inhumanity he denounced were the Paris attacks, which left 129 dead, and the bombing of a Russian airliner over Egypt, which killed all 224 people on board. Christmas festivities will seem empty in a world which has chosen 'war and hate', Pope Francis said yesterday at the Vatican.

If you can’t say where the evil is coming from, from that devil-worshipping religion, than your words are empty, meaningless, a charade.

As for me, I will recall what the angels are recorded as saying (in Latin translation of Luke 2:14) and which the Church officially re-echoes in her Liturgy not only at Christmas but on every joyous occasion: Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.

And to quote Lee Greenwood: “And they can’t take that away.” Neither from the Liturgy, at least from its official form, nor from my heart.

Yes, a certain frivolity may exist around the “pax” and the “bonae voluntatis,” but to let this get on the nerves of our inner Scottish Calvinist is to let the bloody Mohammadans win.

Perhaps the Spanish translation was as bad as the English translation that prevailed for four decades and the good Pope has forgotten the Latin of his youth. Or perhaps he is misquoted or misunderstood. And in fairness to the English translation, while it was not at all grounded in the Latin, “Peace to his people on earth” is sort of supported by one widespread Greek manuscript tradition [the “His” is gratuitous], albeit a comparatively late tradition that substituted a nominative for a genitive.

Ora pro nobis peccatoribus nunc et in hora mortis.

Amen, the most meaning is to be found in that poor little cave where God the WORD took up human nature, to be with us, GOD-WITH-US. Nothing we can do will ever make that void of meaning.

The music of Christmas is the proof of the Incarnation. The sweet lullabies to the Christ Child, to God Who is Love, will always have their season, down through the centuries, till the end of days.

So we should all go *underground* with our celebrations of the Child’s birth?

This pope had jumped the shark.

ANTI-POPE.

Idiocy should not lead to this conclusion. (And I’m not accusing you of Idiocy, but some one else...)

I will say that I do not think that he cries when Old Yeller dies, he doesn’t stand up for the Star Spangled Banner (perhaps understandable given that he is an Argentinian), and he isn’t a John Wayne fan. I will refrain from the theological and moral judgments originally associated with these three traits, but the traits of themselves are propelling me to the emotion that Confederate Railroad fittingly associated with such a person. God forgive me.

Yes, and in times of trouble we need it more. All of this turmoil is temporary and we are worshipping the eternal. It brings comfort.

That doesn't even make sense to me. If anything any Priest I've ever known would say it was a time to rejoice, renew, pray for Peace and remember what the birth of Christ means. Even during WWII when my mother was a little girl and had no idea where her brothers were (one in Europe, one in the Pacific) she said the Church and the family were worried about all of the “boys off to war” but knew that on Christmas no matter where they were they were all celebrating however they could and if they could attending Mass. It brought some hope and happiness to everyone she knew. Is charade some weird word in a different language? How are Catholics and other Christians allowing nut job Muslims to make a charade out of Christmas? (No, I didn't read it. Couldn't get past charade.)

The pope is supposed to concern himself with saving the souls of his flock - nothing else. Worldly stuff doesn’t matter next to eternity. The Pope should not care about anything of a political nature - not GayBaconLettuceand Tomato issues, not localized immigration issues, not whether or not one ethnic group or another feels welcome in whatever land they’ve chosen to invade. He should only care about saving souls, getting people to follow God’s commandments, Instead, we have a Pope who seems to place spiritual things as secondary and political things first. He is nothing but a neo-Marxist social justice warrior with all the trimmings. All Catholics should keep that in mind and look for counsel elsewhere.
