GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) There is a new battle of BBQ and this one deals with which style is healthiest.
Insurance company Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) took a look.
A post compared the Eastern style to the Western style.
The Eastern style comes out on top when it comes to being healthier.
BCBSNC says it is because the Western take on BBQ requires a bit more attention and more flavorings meaning more fat and sodium.
It tipped the scales to the East too because the whole pig is used and not just dark meat on the pork shoulder.
BCBSNC says pick the Eastern style for your heart and cholesterol health.
BBQ wars! Warmest regards to you and yours.
You should have been here last weekend when I made some.
That is grilling. This is a bbq thread.
I pass within 5 miles of that place every week or so.
Ah! A heathen. Barbecue IS pork. Everything else is grilled X meat with sauce on it.
Nope. It can be grilled, smoked, etc. But barbecue is pork. Port is barbecue. God made it that way.
Oh, to me it’s pork too....I was trying to “reach across the aisle”.....
Mmmmm.... dog and snake.
dude, speaking in the general....and yes, some 24 hour eastern NC style pigs are DONE OVER A FIRE......and some in a cooker.
Can*t well all just get along? :-)
Better make it a priority on your bucket list, so you can die happy.
I guessing a vinegar sauce would be best with dog?
Fun...isn’t it.
Where is the fun in that?
Sgt. Mr. niteowl77 Jr. married a Southern gal, and he's been converted to sweet tea. I, on the other hand, am too set in my ways and have too much German on both sides to resist beer with about any meal (which has scandalized the misses on occasion). A pilsner in the Summer, a stout in the Winter, and whatever I can scare up in Spring and Fall (as long as none of it is from an InBev company).
Actually, I will eat the Eastern NC and the GA barbecues even though that's not MY idea of BBQ... but when a bunch of pencil-necked, politically correct functionaries from an insurance company, HMO or FedGov recommend something "for my own good," it makes me want to eat something else on principle.

Speedys might be in Madison, NC.
Sorry about that. Speedys is in Lexington. Fuzzys is in Madison.
This should be fun. lol I live in NC, moved here from GA. My vote goes to GA BBQ.
