BILLINGS, Mont. â Yellowstone National Park proposes to kill roughly 1,000 wild bison this winter â mostly calves and females â as officials seek to reduce the animals' annual migration into Montana.
Park officials are scheduled to meet Thursday with representatives of American Indian tribes, the state and other federal agencies to decide on the plan.
It marks the continuation of a controversial agreement reached in 2000 between Montana and the federal government that was meant to prevent the spread of the disease brucellosis from bison to livestock.
Almost 5,000 bison roamed the park this summer. A harsh winter could drive thousands into areas of southwestern Montana.

How about start allowing hunting in national parks to thin the herd for 100 dollars a tag, thus making money. I know, I know. The gubermint would never allow it. They will hire some one to come in and shoot them at 500 dollar an animal and call it a big success.

Custer State Park Buffalo Auction
Hurry! It's this Saturday!
Also see #43....Custer does a successful auction to cull ....although a hunt would be fine by me.
The idiots at the Park Service will insist on slaughter without any return on the usable carcasses. If they had a lottery for Montana Ranchers (based on their lands under gracing), then these ranchers could harvest their share, keep the bison away from their cattle, and sell their bison meat to Ted. Win, win, win (including the bison herd). But, the Park Service will probably screw it up.
The spirit of Tatanka Iotake is troubled.
**the Park Service will probably screw it up.**
Definitely YES!
I make a dinomIte smoked Buffalo meatloaf .
If that’s not a prime cut cooked medium raw, it’s gonna be kinda chewy.
What is even funnier is the little surprise he’s leaving in the hall behind him.
A few years back they imported a number of Bison from the island of Catalina to Yellowstone.
They filmed a movie on Catalina Island about 80 years and imported Bison there for the movie. They have thrived ever since.
I think the concern is hoof and mouth disease , not grazing . But I could be wrong .
"Think of it, gentlemen. Hoof-and-mouth disease a thing of the past!"
"Nevermind that s--t, here comes Mongo!"
