BILLINGS, Mont. â Yellowstone National Park proposes to kill roughly 1,000 wild bison this winter â mostly calves and females â as officials seek to reduce the animals' annual migration into Montana.
Park officials are scheduled to meet Thursday with representatives of American Indian tribes, the state and other federal agencies to decide on the plan.
It marks the continuation of a controversial agreement reached in 2000 between Montana and the federal government that was meant to prevent the spread of the disease brucellosis from bison to livestock.
Almost 5,000 bison roamed the park this summer. A harsh winter could drive thousands into areas of southwestern Montana.

with stone tipped spears.
My recollection was that the indigenous tribes were more prone to stampeding them off a cliff then attacking them with stone tipped spears.
That’ll work.
A bit of trivia... buffalo hunters of that period favored a bullet lube of 50% beeswax and 50% sperm whale oil.
You had to kill the whales before you could kill the buffalo.
Ahh haha. I’m on my phone and screen was small enough that I just assumed it was a other buffalo in the background heh.
Shh, don’t tell anyone that.
wolves have recently been released into Yellowstone, man ought to stop constantly manipulating nature and give the wolves a chance to balance the herds of bison. The bison, the wolves and the Native Americans were all doing great until the (supposedly) civilized Europeans took over the country. The American wilderness wildlife has been out of balance ever since, right down to clean waters and the fish that depend on it. Human progress needs to stop killing every animal that gets in its way, they’re just making a living. option: remove money from nature’s equation because it’s time for modern humans to bend for a change and if a cattle ranch needs to compete with bison feeding on the same land, then so be it. Approximately 65% of the American people can’t afford the price of beef anyway. Flame away!
We warehouse "wild horses"...costing us million's of dollars a year....
But they are going to KILL buffalo....because they might migrate out of the park?
Why not...have a hunting season on them?
I’ll take one.
BLM... Bison Lives Matter
You would be surprised how much brucellosis (Bang’s Disease) infected meat has been sold in the past. It is not considered harmful to have the disease in the meat.
When cattlemen used to have a cow “bang out”, the entire herd was branded on the jaw with a big B then immediately sold and slaughtered for meat.
For some reason brucellosis causes cattle to abort their young but does not affect the birth of bison or elk which can carry the disease.
In humans it is called Undulant fever.

Can't we uses helios, or drones to adjust their migration? I would think some grad school would welcome the challenge ...or some Boy Scout group.
Run fer the hills!ls
Yummy...I love me sumb bison burger...
*Brucellosis, Bang’s disease, Crimean fever, Gibraltar fever, Malta fever, Maltese fever, Mediterranean fever, rock fever, or undulant fever*....whatever it’s cure, remains the controversy.
Typical Fed solution. We must kill them to save them. Typical.
It sounds as if there are going to take out the wimmins and the chillins’ first.
What ‘til N.O.W. finds out.
