Probably ought to develop hyperjump or warp drive before we colonize any planets. It would just be a waste of resources. Mars has almost no atmosphere, it can go from 80 degrees to 200 below 0 in a matter of minutes and after a few years there any human returning to Earth wouldn’t be able to walk upright in Earth’s gravity.
