In an effort to repair relations with France, Secretary of State John Kerry brought musician James Taylor to sing an acoustic version of “You’ve Got A Friend†for the people of that country after the Charlie Hebdo attack.

Pretty sure that they found out from Paris police that there was an attack going on, and were shut down and out of there before the tower's lights were turned off. There was a lot of confusion when things had started happening - reports of a bomb near the stadium, a shooting, maybe another shooting, it took quite a few minutes before it became apparent that multiple terrorist events had taken place, including people being held in a shooting gallery.
He'll have to resurrect Mary Travers to make that happen....
