Nothing more than symbolism, but so what? Nothing wrong with symbolism, as long as it spurs action adn doesn’t substitute for it.
What can regular folks do to demonstrate sympathy and support?

What’s wrong with that as a way to express support? I remember after 9/11 that our flag was all over the world by people who wanted in their own small way to say they stood with us.
Am I missing something?

I’m on Facebook and the trend is to have the French Flag superimposed on their regular logo. What the hell? If we were in solidarity with France we would have a photo of an AK 47 or M4 or any other big ass fire arm, not some wussy flag.

It’s just the “cool” thing to be into for the week.
It’s a big “I care” stunt.

The reason I have only one "friend" on FB. My daughter, and that was an accident.
I used to really enjoy seeing "You have 0 friends"

Someone posted a picture of an American flag the French had after 9-11. I have supported the French flag on there. I do not see anything wrong with it.

I’ll admit I have the French flag on my picture. I have French family and friends. Besides, I had the American flag imposed over my picture when that “gay” flag crap was going on. Personally, I like this better than the homo flag on everyone’s pictures.

After 911, the band played the Star Spangled Banner at the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.
There is great value in symbolism.
