So I'm walking around the house singing The Animals, "House Of The Rising Sun" to myself. And I wondered what other FReepers sing to themselves...
I’m pretty old and “Who by Fire?” by Leonard Cohen haunts me.
A beautiful song.
.
At different times I’ve sung to myself different songs. Recently, it’s been:
SNOWIN ON RATON Townes Van Zandt
When the wind don’t blow in Amarillo
And the moon along
The Gunnison don’t rise
Shall I cast my dreams
Upon your love, babe
And lie beneath
The laughter of your eyes
It’s snowin’ on Raton
Come morning I’ll be through
Them hills and gone
Mother thinks the road
Is long and lonely
Little brother thinks
The road is straight and fine
Little darling thinks
The road is soft and lovely
I’m thankful that old road
Is a friend of mine
Bid the years good-bye
You cannot still them
You cannot turn
The circles of the sun
You cannot count the miles
Until you feel them
And you cannot hold
A lover that has gone
Tomorrow the mountains
Will be sleeping
Silent ‘neath a blanket
Green and blue
All that I shall hear
The silence they are keeping
I’ll bring all their promises to you
“Grace” by the Dubliners. It’s an old Irish song about the Easter Uprising. They used to play it in the Irish gift shop I worked at some 25 years ago. It has been stuck in my head ever since.
Little River Band - Light of Day - Sleeper Catcher - 1978.
Great song, great harmonies.
...I’m in a Foo Fighter’s mood...
“breathe out so i can breathe you in...”
When I’m looking in the mirror, I just naturally sing ‘You Are So Beautiful’.
“Jump Around” by House of Pain.
Political Science by Randy Newman
No one likes us
I don’t know why
We may not be perfect
But heaven knows we try
But all around
Even our old friends put us down
Let’s drop the big one
And see what happens
We give them money
But are they grateful
No, they’re spiteful
And they’re hateful
They don’t respect us
So let’s surprise them
We’ll drop the big one
And pulverize them
Asia’s crowded
And Europe’s too old
Africa’s far too hot
And Canada’s too cold
And South America stole our name
Let’s drop the big one
There’ll be no one left to blame us
We’ll save Australia
Don’t want to hurt no kangaroo
We’ll build an all American amusement park there
They’ve got surfing, too
Boom goes London
And boom Paris
More room for you
And more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it’ll be
We’ll set everybody free
You’ll have Japanese kimonos, baby
There’ll be Italian shoes for me
They all hate us anyhow
So let’s drop the big one now
Let’s drop the big one now
Welcome to the Jungle by Guns and Roses.
You can plug just about any words into there.
“Eye in the Sky” by Alan Parsons Project is a popular one in my head. I’m frequently humming it. Since its not a bad song, I don’t mind.
Lynyrd Skynyrd “Sweet Home Alabama”.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul.
Beethoven’s Ode to Joy from his 9th symphony (the Choral).
Da da da da da da da da, da da da da da,da daah...
Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines.
When Your One Of The Few by Pink Floyd.
That looks so weird typed out... :)
Stephen Foster: Old Black Joe.
” Red Wigglers, the Cadillac of worms. Deedle-eee.”
Used to sing songs I liked, now I work with high school & college age kids so their horrid music gets stuck in my head. Ugh.
