I believe genetics and biology (metabolism rates, etc) play a big role in many cases. However, one thing for sure, you do not lose weight by eating indiscriminately like there’s no tomorrow.

Of course not, but it is a horrible disservice to accuse other obese people of being gluttons when in fact they are nothing of the sort and eat far less calories than their body mass actually is supposed to require to maintain or lose weight. Those individuals can reduce their caloric intake down to 900 calories per day and still gain additional weight to add to their existing 250 LB weight.
