Does anyone know anything about composting toilets? I work for someone who wants to install one of these. How many people can they handle? How do they work? What is clean up like if there is no running water through them? Are they microbial? If so, how difficult is it to keep the microbes functioning? Is there anything else I should know?
Is there a plumbing ping? Do Freepers know their s***?
Thanks
I don’t know anything about composting toilets, but I am sure the EPA has them planned for your future.
Why would you want to compost a toilet?
You need a lot of fine wood chips and shavings. Compost toilets are primarily outdoor affairs. They do work, though.
Compost toilets are half off this year at algore.com. jk
Two words: Out House
That is effectively what a composting toilet is
One of my sons-in-law had a composting toilet in an outhouse, which he used while the house, septic tank, and proper toilet were under construction. It worked fine, no trouble. But he had to get a special permit for it. That would probably depend on your town and state regulations.
Don’t compost the toilet. They make great targets for twenty twos.
It’s better than using a “honey bucket”
Check out Sun Mar up in Canada. They make composting toilets for homes and boats in a variety of types and capacities.
Why would you want a sewage treatment plant in your backyard?
Put a few more fungi in the pile, that will speed things up.
I researched them on YouTube and found out enough about them to want one for my RV. Search on YouTube and you’ll locate a video by the Winns. They put one in their RV and give a very good presentation on all you need to know about one.
They are considerably more “fun” to use than 1.28 GPF toilets.
Mr. Mercat says: look on YouTube keyword search. The topic is well digested. They range from 5 gallon buckets and sawdust to Forrest Service solar powered industrial strength
Honey bucket tests the limits of my homesteader instincts. :-)
Had one on the property when we were building our house. They work just fine, until you get a 3 week hard freeze.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
