I did the Windows 10 download yesterday and, boy, do I wish I had waited awhile.
Many (MANY) of my apps were disabled. MS Office, all my antivirus/anti-malware programs...all of the stuff I use in my everyday work life.
My advise is to ask those who know better than I do...and wait until Windows 10 is developed enough to accept all your programs...Help!
That said, all advice is invited. Please enlighten us re: Windows 10.
Ping.
I want my XP back. Heck...I’ll take 3.1, when Windows actually worked.
I’m loving win7 ultimate64bit so I’m holding out as long as I possibly can
Yes, within 30 days of upgrading to Windows 10.
There is a way to undo the install and revert back to your original Windows edition.
But, it must be done within a month of the initial install.

I made a Macrium Reflect image of my Win7 OS before going through the Win10 upgrade process, just in chase. I am still going to explore 10 for a while, since I have it on an extra hard drive.
For regular stuff, I still am using Win 7 on another hard drive.
My brief experience with Win 10 — I HATE IT. If it had a classic theme, it might be usable.
Yes, and I had to reload a few things. Worse mistake I’ve made lately. I have been looking into Linux. Should have done that a long time ago...
Should have mad an image backup first :)
I switched to Windows 10 this weekend. Flawless upgrade. Everything (including my nVidia GTX 960 graphics card that everyone said would fail in Win 10) is working great.
I wish my iOS 9 (then 9.01, and 9.02, and 9.03, and now 9.1 today) for the iPad and iPhone had gone as smoothly.
I'd say you want to upgrade to 10 while the new laptop is under warranty. The 8 is a dead end, and Microsoft will want to wash them out of circulation as quickly as possible. You will have to move off of 8 - to 10 or to Linux, your choice.
Of course make a complete backup before you upgrade.
I’m pretty computer illiterate. I won’t dare to try to fix something that isn’t broken.
click new start button , settings , update and security , recovery , you have 30 days if you want to go back to other windows
Think you are right.
I had to go to two finger scrolling.
You can return to Win 7 within a certain time span. I think it is two weeks. I did it on one of my machines a month or so ago.
Thanks but I was suggesting that for the OP.
I always backup my drive with True Image on an external drive, there is no better way to go to recover a drive or if you have to replace the drive with a new one, copy the image on the new disk and it’s like it never happened. (in about an hour)
See my 35.
Acronis makes a great image software and its not expensive.
Best way to go.
How long did you have to wait for your free upgrade? I requested back in July for my Windows 7 desktop. My laptop upgrade came through in a couple of weeks.
I would stick with Win 10 ,the other versions of Windows may not be long for this world
I very much appreciate the advice. As an elderly math major, I admit to Luddite tendencies, and ignorance IS bliss...most of the time. p.s. I hate computers and cell phones, yet here I am. :{)
