It's touching: one of His dying words. And beautiful!
This is made even more explicit in the book of Revelation:
(Rev 12:17) "Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus."
Mary (the mother of the Messiah) is called mother also of those who obey God and believe in Jesus, i.e. all Christians are her "offspring."
And what of advice does she have for us? Well, what woulda handmaid of the Lord say?
And just where is that interpretation of Rev 12:17 infallible church teaching, or does it otherwise require assent?
And if a faithful RC can disagree with this interpretation of Rev 12:17 then what else may he disagree with?
Also, is this a tradition that is linked to the Assumption, or are you appealing to Scripture as the supreme authority?
The Word says she was entrusted to John.....not us.
Mary appears to be the center of all catholicism.
He gave Mary to johns safekeeping not the other way around And He specifically gave her to Johns keeping not to the world. He was making provision for Mary not the other way around
Lovely bit of editting you've shown here.
We Prots (as we are lovingly referred to) KNOW that she was given to John; ONLY.
John 19:25-27 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen.
26 When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son.
27 After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.
Research is SO much better than hearsay:
Acts 17:11
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
