I think he's merely a wack job, not a political, racial or religious (or anti-religious) guy. I think he was mad he couldn't attract woman. I believe the computer forum he hung out on was for self-identified "beta males" who can't get woman. And this was part of the "beta uprising".

I believe the shooting date was picked to coincide with a previous mass shooting by a self identified beta male.
