A group of hikers in Tyrol were attacked by three aggressive mountain bikers on Saturday afternoon as they descended the Rumer Alm in the Innsbruck Land district. One of the hikers suffered multiple lacerations.
Police told local media that five hikers were descending from the alm towards the valley at around 5.30pm when they were overtaken at high speed by a mountain biker.
The group called after the biker that he should slow down - at which point he stopped and put one of the hikers in a stranglehold. The man struggled to free himself and the biker sped off down the valley.
When the hikers reached the Siebenwegekreuzung they found the biker was waiting for them with two friends. They knocked one of the group, a 58-year-old man, to the ground and kicked him. One of the bikers hit him in the face with his helmet, and the man suffered multiple cuts on his head and bruising on his chest. When the mans wife tried to come to his aid one of the cyclists punched her in the stomach.
Police are now looking for the three mountain bikers, who are between 20 and 25 years old and speak High German. One of the men has blond, curly hair and "piercing" blue eyes. Another is described as short, with dark hair and an athletic build. Two of the men were riding downhill mountain bikes and one was on an ordinary mountain bike.
I carry a Glock and a knife.
This is why I always hike with my pet Grizzly Bear, Fluffy.
Oh, those mountain bikers don’t need no trails when Fluffy is behind them. They just go straight down the mountain.
Through the trees. Through the boulders. It don’t matter.
They ask me what kind of dog Fluffy is. I tell them,
“She’s a Hungarian Standard Poodle.”
Quarterstaffs vs. bikes. Advantage: hikers.
You didn’t ask but here is my bent!

Nice link, thanks! I like that free-form Hickory hiking stick.
Only if you hear them coming.
If bikers run me over without warning, I’ll be doing more than hollering at them.
My wife walks a lot, with the dog, and I’m trying to talk her into using one. They are great for aiding balance and being Florida, sometimes one sees critters.
I’m trying to decide between three models. Always loved hickory but in my olde age leaning towards a Diamond Willow, with 2 different ferrule points and a compass, for the top.

I do hear them coming because I’m not walking through the woods with my ear buds in.
Take one of them to the ground and sever his Achilles with a razor sharp folder.
I’ll never get around to doing it but here’s an idea someone can run with. Take a hiking stick, put a quick connect fixture on the top of it that accepts a similar fixture on the butt of a 9” blade.
Instant spear.

Pics, please!
I don’t know how to do photos here. I’ll see if I can do a representation.

Agree.

Too bad they weren’t in Waco.
Do you spend ANY time in the woods?
I never use earbuds and it’s pretty easy to have mountain bikers come up on you quickly.
Yes, I get out camping at least once every other month.
I camp and hike in Uwharrie National Forest and hike both the foot and mountain bike trails.
When I’m on the bike trails I pay just a bit more attention.
And the area is open for hunting season so you can throw hunters in as well during that time of year.
Most everybody is friendly.
