In his second policy position paper, presidential candidate Donald Trump called for an expansion of gun rights in America.
In the document published on his campaign website, Trump stated: The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.
He added: Its been said that the Second Amendment is Americas first freedom. Thats because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights.
In that light, the candidate called for at least three major changes:
National Right to Carry: The right of self-defense doesnt stop at the end of your driveway. Thats why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A drivers license works in every state, so its common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving which is a privilege, not a right then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege."
Military Bases and Recruitment Centers: Banning our military from carrying firearms on bases and at recruiting centers is ridiculous. We train our military how to safely and responsibly use firearms, but our current policies leave them defenseless. To make America great again, we need a strong military. To have a strong military, we need to allow them to defend themselves.
Background Checks: Update the national background check system. There has been a national background check system in place since 1998. Every time a person buys a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer which is the overwhelming majority of all gun purchases they go through a federal background check
Too many states are failing to put criminal and mental health records into the system and it should go without saying that a systems only going to be as effective as the records that are put into it. What we need to do is fix the system we have and make it work as intended. What we dont need to do is expand a broken system.
Trump also stated his opposition to gun and high capacity magazine bans. Gun and magazine bans are a total failure. Thats been proven every time its been tried. Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like assault weapons, military-style weapons and high capacity magazines to confuse people The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own, according to the plan.
Additionally, the candidate advocates reforming the nations mental healthcare system. All of the tragic mass murders that occurred in the past several years have something in common there were red flags that were ignored We need to expand treatment programs, because most people with mental health problems arent violent, they just need help.
We need real solutions to address real problems. Not grandstanding or political agendas, according to Trump.

I saw this a week ago or more, and think it looks good. Not a thing there I don’t like.
I’ve been wondering the same thing as a couple of others, why isn’t this getting any coverage? It’s the best firearm policy I’ve seen yet and nobody is saying a thing about it. Simple and straight forward, very good justifications for his handling of some controversial issues, and nobody is saying a word...
...and the mental health issue in the hands of the federal government, much less unelected bureacrats in the FBI who have not been successful in hindering the public from engaging in the attempt at firearms purchase, even though not in compliance with the prohibitions to purchase.
The federal government does not need to be in the business of firearms control period.
In order to do that check, you still have to go through a dealer. Break the BATF 4473 link and I'm for it, otherwise it's still gun registration.
...because who does have them will be a major control on those who shouldn’t.
Once enacted, and violent crime goes down appreciably, and scores of the population don't perform mass suicides and murders, then an Arizona type legislation nationwide could be more doable.
“This is probably the most aggressive defense of the Second Amendment put forth by a serious presidential candidate since Reagan (who had a concealed permit himself).”
But Reagan still signed the 1986 Hughes Act which expanded the ATFs power and banned the manufacturing of machine guns. Like immigration, Reagan majorly failed on gun rights.

To us that's a no-brainer, but to the Libtards it's a conundrum. The easy answer is "If the gun is used to commit a crime, it's illegal." Duh.

I wish Trump would stop saying “To make America great again’
This implies America is not great.
That’s what happens when I go on the road for 10 days.
I always figured Reagan had a machine gun collection and he made a killing on the profit.
A-ha! You see my pretty, Trump's plan is reverse psychology. Once he's installed in power, we will conquer the entire the world!

"Meanwhile, on FreeRepublic..."
Do you think this will put to rest the claims that Trump is weak on the 2nd Amendment?
It was posted here at FR and discussed quite a bit.
I agree people should be aware. I like his position paper very much
Had not heard it before,,
Until he can demostrate that he can walk on water, no. :’)
Important to pay attention this silly season.
Even if one doesn’t I Ike Trump, he is going about things in a very different way.
Have to stay alert or you will miss stuff
