The Chicago Cubs have clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2008.
The Cubs were assured of at least an NL wild-card slot Friday night when San Francisco lost to Oakland 5-4, eliminating the Giants from playoff contention.
The sign outside Wrigley Field lit up with "Cubs Clinch Postseason Berth'' after it became official late Friday night. Fans gathered around to take pictures and mark Chicago's return for the first time since 2008.

I'm happiest for the Pirates. They've suffered long enough. Yes, I know the Cubs have suffered much longer, but perhaps it's meant to be. :)

In the ultimate show of forgiveness and redemption, the Cubbies have offered Steve Bartman a couple free seats in the front row down the left field line. BWAHAHAHAHA

Oh...EEE! I grew up in St. Louis —born and raised Card fan. I so remember fondly the games called by Harry Carey and Jack Buck. They were the pinnacle of baseball broadcast perfection. Too bad Harry was screwing Auggie Busch's wife —that's what cost him his job in St. Louis :-) But St. Louis’ loss was Chicago's gain......really miss his distinctive voice!

I'm a White Sox fan and I have to say that watching the Cubs play this year was really alot of fun! There is so much young talent on that team and they've really gelled as a team this year. The turn-around has been remarkably quick and as I said, quite alot of fun to watch! Really like Joe Maddon, he's done a great job with this team. The sky's the limit for them.
Congratulations Cubs Fans!

I live in Wrigleyville..I hope the wild card game is away. Wrigley would be a pressure cooker filled with neuratic maniacs. Having nervous breakdowns with every pitch. Better off an away game.

While my Giants may have been eliminated from a wild card slot, the Dodgers have not clinched the NL West. That could happen any day now but it hasn’t happened yet.

Isn’t there a growing middle eastern population in Chicago?
Doesn’t the curse have something to do with a goat?

Mets wow. Used to watch them years ago when I lived in NYC. My daughter was born the day they won the series in ‘86 (was also ralph Kiner’s birthday). So I’m in recovery room and I said you gotta get me up to the room and in front of the tv before game 7 starts LOL!

Not the Giants' year - it's odd-numbered. Next year, look out. Seriously though, they need at least one more quality starter behind Baumgarner.
