The thin blue line that symbolizes Americas embattled police officers is taking on a literal meaning in city after city.
Through the Safe Harbor Initiative, Anthony Welichko of San Antonio is urging Americans to spray paint a blue line on the curb by their home as a simple public affirmation of their support for the police.
To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate your service and dedication to keeping the peace, Welichko wrote on Facebook. Know that when you enter the neighborhood and see these lines that you are not alone or without back-up. We do not need the media to make our voices of support for our police and emergency services heard (though it would be nice). Lastly, if you are in my neighborhood and mean to harm a member of law enforcement, know that decision may be hazardous you (sic) health as someone has that officers (sic) back!
Welichkos post has been shared more than 75,000 times.
The war against police, if you will, gets a lot of attention. I get the sense that the officers themselves arent seeing that support, said Welichko. Every single day theyre here protecting us. Our families. Our children. They absolutely deserve that respect, and they need to know we appreciate that.
This is not an organized movement requiring one to join, sign-up or reach out for permission. If you wish to show your support the same way I have then grab a can of paint and go for it, he wrote.
"Same here. If you find out, let me know, please."
I live in a rural area without curbs. I have a rural mailbox on a 4x4 pole...I'll wrap some blue tape around the post.
