I'll leave coverage of the substance of the GOP debate to others. I want to talk about the style of the participants--who was the best, most appealing speaker?
Chris Christie spoke too quickly, making himself appear nervous. Perhaps he was nervous, because he was on the verge of being eliminated from the grownups debate.
John Kasich has no eyebrows and his face looks partially melted, making himself look like a space alien. He spoke a lot but he didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.
Carly Fiorina was forceful and articulate. She also looked stern and had this sour look on her face, like a constantly angry schoolmarm. She almost never smiled or had any warmth in her voice.
Ben Carson reminded me of blind David Patterson, the former Governor of New York who was very soft spoken. He talked about important things, but how can you speak with passion about the dangers of a nuclear Iran when you talk in such a soft tone?
Donald Trump was amusing as always and seemed like a character actor. Not exactly Presidential, more like Peter Falk from Columbo.
Ted Cruz was the best. He looked the camera right in the eye, and spoke with a clear, firm voice that had a sense of urgency.
Rand Paul was not great or terrible, but seemed to whine when he talked about drugs.
Scott Walker wasn't bad but he actually spoke the least in the debate. He has this weird way of staring into the camera with one eye but the other is a little off center making it look like he has a glass eye (which he doesn't.)
They showed Mike Huckabee often from a sideview and it wasn't flattering. He looks severely overweight but he did speak with passion. Marco Rubio spoke with a sense of urgency about foreign policy but there also seemed to be a note of desperation in his presentation.
Jeb Bush was definitely higher energy, but he had this weird habit of moving his head when he talked. As he talked at length I saw his head move left and right, right and left, and left and right like windshield wipers. I suppose he was trying to look at all the audience, but when the most important audience was behind a camera his movements seemed weird.
Overall Ted Cruz was the best. Carly had forceful moments but as I said she was not very likeable. Marco and even Jeb had moments too.
Bada-Boom!
The first hour was devoted to a circular firing squad . Cruz again was shut out . Trump was right about that dweeb Rand Paul should not even be there . Carly’s eyes were batting so fast she was fanning the moderator right out of their chairs . Trump was making weird faces all night long while others were speaking . Christie was a traffic cop directing the insult traffic . Carson was in awe watching the what looked like the Star Wars bar scene and so on . I was pretty disappointed in general . It’s a good thing the dems are in such disarray or we wouldn’t have a shot of winning this election .
Christie: Tense, but genuine and passionate at times.
Kasich: Off his meds.
Carly: Grating, icy.
Carson: Unpersuasive, mealy mouthed.
Trump: Charismatic, humorous, seemed tired at times.
Cruz: Articulate, passionate, engaging. Best of show.
Paul: Whiny, but sometimes focused and engaging.
Walker: Distant, not engaging (even though he made good points).
Rubio: Concise, articulate, passionate. I’m not a fan, but he did a very good job on delivery.
Jeb: Lacked confidence.
People do.
People are visually oriented creatures.
Looks matter whether you want to admit it or not.
Except ... he’d never leave the presser .... oh .... one more thing, my fellow Americans ......
In the end, it’s all talk. Mind numbing.
Carson is such a low talker. Just can’t see him going anywhere with that.
Surgeon General
There is truly no hope for America.
Trump warned that he was going to throw a change-up just to knock his opponents off their game.
I thought Christie was the heavy-hitter. But seriously folks: he was all over it. No, really — he was primed and forceful. As good a debater as Cruz is, I thought last night that Christie was better.
But the main thing last night was that the Repubs have a very strong, expressive, sincere, honest and deep team. Contrast that w/ the dimocrats and you have night and day.
I think Cruz caves to the supreme debater meme. Hard to be natural when all are watching for your debate skills.
I agree though, brilliant oratory at Iran protest, passionate, knowledgable, and determined.
Linda is a liberal phony. He has as much business being in the Senate as Zero does in the White House.
Oh, that wasn't the question?
Change up? Really?
I think he needs more debate prep.
Cruz then Trump.
Go Trump!
Go Cruz!
Go TrumpCruz 2016!

There is always hope - but hope needs ideas, problem solving and courage to turn dreams into reality.
Typing insults on the computer ain’t courage!!!!!!
"If we can't defund Planned Parenthood now, if we can't stand for innocent life after these barbaric videos, it is time to be done with the Republican Party." -Bobby Jindal, CNN Debate, 9-16-15I would pick Bobby Jindal as my #1. He spoke the most about pro-life and about the rights of Christian businesses. He supported Kim Davis to the max.
Agreed. On paper and policy, T. Cruz is the guy.
Last night, most of the time, Mr. Cruz was a lawyer giving an important closing argument. Seemed stiff.
Rubio and Carly both took big steps.
Walker took a step.
Even Christy did well....but I just don’t like him.
IMO, Trump took a step too, but backwards. I found myself cringing way too much when he spoke. Obviously he will be around a while, which is good, because he continues to be a lightening rod. He is leading the charge against the GOP establishment and if for little else, I like him for that.
Why didn’t Hugh Hewitt ask more questions? Why were most of Jakes questions attempts to get two candidates to fight each other? What is your SS name going to be? Really?
I don't like Cruz.He throws bombs to draw attention to himself. However, if he becomes the nominee I would vote for him.
