Fiorina out, HP stock soars
CEO who engineered Compaq merger leaving after fight with board; will walk away with $21 million.
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Hewlett-Packard Co. Chairman and CEO Carly Fiorina, one of the most powerful women in corporate America, is leaving the troubled computer maker after being forced out by the company's board.
Shares of HP (Research) jumped 6.9 percent in heavy trading on the New York Stock Exchange Wednesday on the news. But at one point, the stock was up as much as 10.5 percent.
"The stock is up a bit on the fact that nobody liked Carly's leadership all that much," said Robert Cihra, an analyst with Fulcrum Global Partners. "The Street had lost all faith in her and the market's hope is that anyone will be better."

Fiorina is a walking disaster. She has no successes to show—failed business leader, failed candidate, defender of Islam...

She was CEO for only 5 years and was fired for poor performance.
That's not a qualification for anything.

Don’t know the back story on this. Was the merger good or bad?

Hired and supported by her Board. Making it seem as if she is solely responsible is dishonest.

Wow the long knives are out. What’s that three anti Forina articles posted in the last hour plus. Same day as the debate, just a coincidence I’m sure.

She’s been ordered to take down Trump in the debate. Perfect timing for Trump to use this against her.

There are competing stories about Fiorina's performance at H-P. I just read one from a board member named Tom Perkins who said she did an excellent job under the circumstances i.e. the dot com crash. He said a number of board members had it in for her.
So who to believe? Is the truth somewhere in the middle?

eggs actly. If he takes her out and doesn’t get tore up too badly by the others, he wins and advances another space on the board.

Look at the numbers. they speak for themselves. HP stock dropped 50% while the rest of the sector averaged 7%. HP stock jumped 6.9% on news of termination. Nobody considered her to be an effective CEO. And she may have doubled sales but she decreased profits overall. Her time at Lucent was even worse when you really look at what she did.
