Last time I ordered a cab at my favorite sports bar: 1+ hour wait, the thing stank, and the ride cost about $40. Driver was nice enough, though.

Last time I got an Uber at the same place with the same destination: 6 minute wait, clean Lexus, and $12 fare. Better driver, too. (She was also very nice.)

Gee, which one is the better value?

PS I Uber all the time. Have met a few former taxi drivers who now Uber. They uniformly say that they make more than when they drove taxis...

Last time I was in a cab was in Baltimore about a month ago. The cab was falling apart, stank and the thug driver was playing rap music at ear-splitting volume. (I wound up giving a tip because I didn’t want to get shanked on the way out of the cab.) Wound up using Uber on the way home and was greeted by a nice, well-spoken black driver in a brand new SUV who couldn’t have been more accommodating and delivered us back to our hotel for half the fare of the cab. I will never use a cab again where Uber is available.

Taken a taxi in any major city? Driver from a middle-eastern country? Driver driving with a death wish?
Good reason to try UBER.

When Uber first came to Pennsylvania, they were smeared badly, no doubt by a conspiracy between the media and the cab companies, which did not want the competition. But in talking to people who have taken Uber, Ive heard nothing but praise. The rates seem reasonable compared to taxi companies, which raise their fares seemingly every other week.

Anything would be better than those shared airport shuttles. All the drivers seem to be nasty, rude immigrants. Recently I had a Middle Eastern driver who was, by far, the rudest person I’ve ever encountered in my life. NEVER again. I’m checking into Uber.
