They got their heads handed to them with the Amazon Fire Phone fiasco. . . and most of the tech punditry is claiming their hardware department is "struggling." No, you cannot say that Apple got out of the hardware business which makes you more delusional. . . because Apple DESIGNS their hardware and manages it's manufacture, and sells hardware as their primary business. Amazon does not. It is not their primary business. Amazon is a RESELLER and a CONSIGNMENT SELLER.
FoxConn builds to Apple's specific designs including all engineering and Apple even specific chips and processors. Amazon does not. If Amazon were to continue designing their hardware, then they would not be laying off their engineers. Apple is building a huge new building to house their engineers, capable of holding 30,000 employees.
Have you ever been in business? As for your claim that Kindle is the number one e-book reader, your own links claim that Amazon Tablets, which now are the Kindle, only claimed 1% of the market. The facts just don't bear you out. Amazon has never published ANY of their sales numbers for these products. Frankly, we simply don't know.

Kindle ereaders are not tablets They are gadgets like the Kindle Paperwhite. Tablets are the Fire line, and the Kindle Fire tablet.
