Tim Tebow's NFL career was believed to be over before the Philadelphia Eagles signed him this offseason. After a brief reprieve, Philadelphia released the quarterback Saturday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Philly cut ties with the former Heisman Trophy winner after it shipped quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade for a seventh-round draft pick Friday, a deal reported by Schefter (via ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan).
On the heels of that move, it seemed as though Tebow would make the team. He certainly made a strong case for himself in the Eagles' preseason finale by outplaying Barkley significantly, as shown by the NFL's official Twitter account...

Tebow is winning in the one game that really matters.
Chip Kelly’s reason for Tim Tebow not making the #Eagles in one picture:

Ok, but was that receiver wide open only after Tebow started to run? Was Tebow already past the line of scrimmage by that point? That pic doesn’t tell the whole story.
When did you stop beating the dog you don’t own? Dumb question, huh?
The image suggests that the Eagles were at the Jets’ 5. Tebow was at the 8.
Guys who just aren’t that good don’t win playoff games.
Are you going to try saying people that suck can win at the playoff level? Really? Because it cannot be both ways. So if a guy can and DID win at that level, there has to be talent. Both to get him TO the game and even more to win it.
Now I don’t see that as a remotely controversial or arguable statement. In fact, anyone saying it was would have a pretty tough time backing it up factually or logically.
Since that is in fact the case we can skip to other reasons outside takent and ability which he was proven to have. And has.
Does it really matter how good a coach is when his boss says no?
If you ever spent any time in the workforce, and I’m sure you have, you have encountered office politics. The NFL has it on a much ‘richer’ scale. That’s all there is to it.
Unless one gets to win NFL playoff games being ‘not that good’.
Sure they do. Remember, it’s a team sport, with a 53 man roster divided up in 3 major groups. The fact is no player is on the team more than half the plays when you count special teams. A good team can win with a bad player, even in the playoffs. Look at Trent Dilfer. Generally considered the worst QB to ever win a SB, hist stats on their SB run were pathetic. The team went 5 (regular season) games in a row without an offensive TD... and won all 5 because they had the best defense in the history of the game.
Or look even closer to last year when the (terrible in all phases of the game) Carolina Panthers beat the (even worse) Arizona Cardinals in the Wild Card round.
So yes bad teams and bad players can win A playoff game. But the truth tends to come out as the playoffs progress. Unless you have the best defense ever to make up for it.
It certainly does matter how good a coach is, because that also helps show how good the owner is. Kraft doesn’t interfere with the team. He let’s Belichick handle it, because Belichick is possibly the best ever. Belichick handles the roster, if Bill had wanted Tebow he’d have gotten him. And really, if Kraft was going to interfere why wait until the final cut, just don’t bring Tebow in. Again, Ray Rice shows how this works, nobody wants the PR hit so nobody has brought him in for try outs.
There’s a long list of players that have managed to win A playoff game without being very good. There’s even a few that won the Lombardi that way. A 53 man roster has lots of people to help weak players.
If you want to talk about playoff records, Sanchez is 4-2 with back to back AFC championship appearances. But some here believe Tebow should stay and he should go.
With play like I saw Thursday night, I thought that Tebow should be elevated to #2 above Mark Sanchez. Not cut. I think that Kelly lost his nerve. Tebow never looked better, and deserves to be an Eagle. I’ll take him as Lions’ back-up right now! Bob
Did you see him Thursday night? He looked very good, like a new QB with actual passing ability. The ability to pass accurately will make him a better runner as well.
Sanchez’ game fell apart at the end of last year. He was awful.
Best he ever looked IMO. I read a quote from the Eagles Head Coach who said Tebow looked great, but needed to "get to the next level" with actual playing time.
WTF!!! If he looked great (I agree he should be the #2) and you cut him because he doesn't have enough playing time? Just where do you expect him to get that when not on an actual team! Dumb ass coach IMO. Eagles deserve to SUCK this year IMO with a coach like that.
Tebow will land somewhere this year. If not, he should hang it up and go back to his SEC Analyst role at ESPN. He had a great record picking the winning teams all season last year. Clearly the guy knows football IMO.
No, I don’t think that Tebow should be blamed for that one throw on third and long, when no one was open. The other man was covered like a blanket, until AFTER the ball was released. If it was a first down play, the throw would have been a terrible decision, but at third down, you take your chances if you are a smart player. And Tebow is.
The final pre-season game is for guys who are about to get cut, to avoid the chance of the players they intend to keep from getting hurt.
Hmmm. The things I learn here on FR. Go figure.
(Someone should tell the Shitcago Bears that btw......)
Even though I live in Illinois, and Jay Cutler lives a mile down the road from me, I HATE the Shitcago Bears. Ever since they were dumb enough to not only trade for Jay Cutler, but pay him TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars to SUCK, I became a Green Bay Packers fan. Screw the Shitcago Bears.
Yet they kept signing him and giving him chances. Your argument is specious.
The only thing I can think of is that with Bradford's injury history and Sanchez's record of erratic performance, Kelly decided he needed a proven QB to back them both up. They're no doubt watching the waiver wires and maybe thinking about trading for one.
The Eagles also had Matt Barkley. He's not what you would call a slouch in the Christianity department.
RE: The Redskins could use a QB.
And if they sign Tebow they’ll still be looking for a QB
RE: Too bad Tebow isnt 35 yet. Tebow would make great conservative candidate.
I believe you are correct
