Few Freepers believe that Trump is our kind of conservative. Look closely at many of the pro-Trump comments here, and you'll see the qualifier, "if he wins the primary, I'll vote for him in the general."

For me, that indicates that most conservatives are still holding out hope that their favorite conservative candidate (Cruz, in most cases) will be the nominee, but that they're grounded enough in reality to admit that it will probably be Trump.

It also tends to indicate that most conservatives are comfortable enough with his ideological/temperamental make-up to willingly cast their vote for him in the general. Obviously, that's because there's more to like about Trump, than to dislike, from our perspective.

What we're not hearing at this point is, "If Trump is the nominee, I'm staying home!" Even knuckle dragging, bitter clinging purists like me, have already concluded that a Trump presidency would be a net positive for this country, and that he would do everything in his power to correct some of the worst existential threats to America.

I, like so many others, have come to that conclusion in the same way conservatives usually do - through careful reasoning, based upon facts and observation.

Listen - the Uniparty establishment doesn't want any candidate that will actually go to Washington and work for The People. They will use every trick in the book, and throw every wrench imaginable at any candidate who threatens to stop their wholesale rape and pillage of this country.

The establishment has now become so powerful and entrenched, that they can prevent the election of any person they deem to be unacceptable. Even worse - they can now run candidates for office who are repulsive to the vast majority of voters - and get them elected anyway, despite our overwhelming disgust.

In such an upside-down political situation, do you really think a Reagan II has any chance of winning the nomination - let alone actually being elected??

You know they don't.

Enter a non-politician who's a known quantity with the electorate, who wants to right some of the most egregious structural wrongs in this country, and who cannot be bought, controlled, intimidated, or maneuvered out of the way by the establishment. Someone who doesn't mince words or spout tired cliches, while kicking the media and the political establishment in the ass every single day.

Thank God this man is solidly pro-American, even if he doesn't pass our most rigid conservative litmus tests.

That is a very perceptive post. What you said about the GOPe is true. Without Trump in the race, odds are overwhelming they’d have found a way to force Jeb onto us. Then they’d do their usual damned-in-hell victory dance, i.e.: ‘you have to vote Jeb or you’ll get Sanders (or whoever).’

Conservatives would have revolted in greater #s than last time, and we’d have gotten yet another Dem. Bye bye USA.

We’ll see how it all plays out. But so far the GOpe is living their worst nightmare, and that’s good by me.

“if he wins the primary, I’ll vote for him in the general.”

“For me, that indicates that most conservatives are still holding out hope that their favorite conservative candidate (Cruz, in most cases) will be the nominee, but that they’re grounded enough in reality to admit that it will probably be Trump. “

Isn’t that the same...THE VERY SAME...’logic’ that has resulted in a RINO dominated GOP? That elected Mitch and Jonbon?

Yes it is.

I’m plenty grounded in reality. I think he will be our next president. Not because he’s the best choice. Not because he is trustworthy. Not because of any reason we -should- want someone elected. I think he will be president for all the reasons you and I have discussed to death over the years.
Because it’s a lesser evil. No matter what. No different than 2012 or 2014 AT ALL. Remember my email to you predicting exactly this the day after Mitt threw the election?

Did I not call this to the letter? OK granted, I didn’t think the rush would happen till later. But it happened and for the same reason.

You’re in Texas. You know the first rule when cattle stampede. “Get the hell out of the way”. We get what we deserve. I want to be wrong. I want Trump to put us on the right path to fixing this mess.

I also want a pony.
