Neither did Milt Romley or Juan McQueeg or Bob Dull.

Thank you, that makes sense given Rush’s approach to election cycles. The GOPee has told us every year for 8 years that we conservative purists can’t win with our conservative candidates. They tell us we have to vote RINO in order to win.

Well this time people have chosen someone who is not necessarily conservative and now these same RINO GOPees are saying but, but, he’s not a severe conservative. Don’t you know he’s supported democrats. He’s held liberal positions. You people are not playing by the rules (the ones that we can manipulate).

Meaning: ‘You people aren’t behaving as we expect. You’re not following the plan. You’re messing up all our arrangements. You have to pick a conservative so we can knock them all down one by one. We can’t do that with Trump. How are we supposed to get you to get stuck with our non conservative if you pick your own? Why change your ways now? It’s was working out so well for us before. Let us control you!’

Screening for Cruz. Over Rubio. And FOR the Constitution. He is in hot water with the Establishment for this, certainly.

“No where near everyone on Free Republic is supporting him.”

I believe if they could have a poll here at FR, it would show that more than 75% support Trump.

I really hate to differ with you, friend, but we're on opposite sides about Trump.

It's true that he fails the conservative 'test' in some respects, and that he's a recent convert to some of his more conservative positions. The fact remains, he passes the American test with flying colors.

In those areas that are most crucial to the survival of the United States, he's in foursquare agreement with we conservative patriots. If what he set forth in his 2011 book, "Time To Get Tough", is any indication, he'll gradually adopt a well rounded conservative viewpoint.

Here's the thing. Ted Cruz was my first choice for prez in 2016, but it's apparent that he's not resonating with the voters at a level sufficient to capture the nomination. If Trump weren't in the race, Bush would probably be dominating, and Cruz would be fighting off attacks from Jeb's establishment pacs. The heinous GOP-e would be running their usual dirty politicking and squeezing out the outsiders and anti-BigGov candidates. The USCOC boys would be rubbing their hands as they watched our best guys being squashed one by one.

But a funny thing happened on the way to stealing the nomination from The People. A brash, big-mouthed billionaire, who doesn't dance to their tune, entered the race and completely upset their apple cart. He came out swinging, saying the very things that most decent Americans have been screaming at their TV sets for years. His poll numbers hit Number One right out of the gate, and have continued to climb ever since, even though he's done everything conventional wisdom says you can't or mustn't do in a presidential campaign.

The guy is speaking for those of us with weaker voices, and there's not a damn thing the state-run media, the K Street lobbyists, LaRaza, the GOP-e, Hollywood, the alleged conservative pundits, and the anti-American left can do about it. He's steamrolling them all, and promising to do the very things we sent a wave of new Republican legislators to Washington to do.

Trump is the only candidate who wants to build the southern border fence, shut off freebies for illegals, deport them all to their countries of origin, and end birthright citizenship. The only one.

We can argue about conservative purity, and while those conversations are valid, none of it will mean a thing if the Dems are allowed to create 30 to 50 million newly minted voters over the next four years. It will be the final death knell for this republic if someone doesn't stand up and implement the critical steps above.

Some of the other candidates have made statements that sound in accordance with the above, but they're only soft harmonics of the dominant note that Trump is sounding. He means to put an end to the most pressing existential issue the country faces, once and for all.

This is what's driving his polling numbers, and it's why, despite his acknowledged dearth of long held conservative views, the American public is with him. We need a General who's not afraid to lift our flag and lead us into battle against the forces that are destroying us. I've looked around, and the only one I see in the race is Trump.

“...NO track record of conservatism...”

Since you have neglected a ‘home page’ I can only assume from your screen name that you are from the Cincinnati area. So lets talk about conservatism regards the greater Cincinnati/Dayton area of the great state of Ohio...

Bob Taft III - lousy, not a conservative, Republican Governor
John Boehner - lousy, rino’s rino Speaker of the House of Representatives (No backbone, no principles)

These are your area pols of recent/current vintage. Supportive of them?

If you have a particular candidate that you favor, how about telling us in a positive way why we should like that candidate, the pluses of that candidate. But it is easier to go on the defensive by tearing down other candidates, particularly if they happen to be Donald Trump.

I have seen you on many other threads bashing Trump. Seems that wasn’t enough...you had to start your own thread for more Trump bashing. Seems to me it makes a lot more since to bash the GOPe, who have given us losers - Bob Dole, John McCain, Mitt Romney. And they were all set to ram another loser, Jeb Bush, down our throats.

So which of the 17 or so Republican candidates are challenging the establishment, and how are they doing in the polls? Trump, Carson, Cruz and Fiorina...top of the heap.

I would characterize the other 13 or so Republicans as establishment candidates, to one degree or another. I think Priebus, Rove and company would settle for Walker, Christie, Kasich, and maybe Rubio if Jeb can’t be their candidate. I don’t want any of this lot to be president.

Of the current leaders, Fiorina is not presidential material. She is not conservative, in my book, and her screw-up of HP shows she is not a good manager.

That leaves three...Trump, Carson, Cruz. I would like to see a Cruz Presidency. Not likely to happen. Carson...soft spoken, well liked, maybe VP material...on a Trump/Carson ticket.

If the GOPe ‘lets’ Trump have the nomination, I think Trump can win, and win big. Big enough to pack the House and Senate with Conservative Republicans. That is what we need. We do not need another establishment loser. Another establishment loser could very well foment RWII.

It’s utter bullshit to attack CW, or anybody here, personally as paid hacks. CW is a member since 1999. If she’s a paid Walker hack, that’s one hell of a long game.

Further, it really mkes me sick to see the amount of FReeper-on-FReeper crime happening here. There’s always been an undercurrent of holier-than-thou nonsense at this place, but Trump has brought out a Stalinesque mindset in so many that it’s troubling. I’ve seen longtime FReepers - veterans of the Joe Miller/Murkowski days, supporters of Matt Bevin and Chris McDaniel - called RINOs and GOPe lovers because they have legitimate questions about Trump. It’s even getting to the point that Cruz and his supporters are starting to trip across the Trump line and be called establishment traitors.

Strange times to be a conservative, indeed.

I agree. Many of the newer generation of FReepers seem to be more prone to personal attacks due to the anonymity that the internet affords them.

It is clear that the Trump supporters cannot defend their choice of candidate, so they attack posters, call names, or go after the candidate of those who dare question Trump.

There is no substance and it is becoming clearer and clearer.

But it is disturbing how anything posted modestly questioning Trump is immediately attacked with viciousness.

Then answer one question.

How do you know what Trump will do if he’s in the White House?

I don’t know what ANYONE will do in the WH. That is a non sequitur. Are you really more afraid of a Trump in the WH than a Bush or the Clinton crew back in there? There is no chance of Cruz or Walker getting in except as veep. You continue to miss the point.

Trump’s success in the private sector, where he essentially used crony capitalist tactics, is no guarantee that he will be able to work with Congress to get things done. He’s attacked his own putative and possibly temporary party with such venom that it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to work with him. Trump’s fan club seems to think he’ll be allowed to run roughshod over the Constitution, like Obama has.

I’m in Texas.

I don’t go on other threads to bash Trump, I post an occasional article on Trump and discuss his history on those threads.

I do tout my candidate, Scott Walker, have for some time whereby other FReepers come to kick sand in his face or offer positive comments.

You seem to have a lot of opinions about me.

Windflier:

I hate to disagree with you as well. We shall see. Meantime, we must agree to disagree. I genuinely hope that Trump justifies the hopes that his supporters place in him. OTOH, the principles of Judaeo-Christian civilization, morality and conservatism are permanent things and ought never to be transgressed for some transitory candidate or issue. I perceive Trump as taking gross advantage of folks who are starved for respect after all that has transpired in the post-Reagan years.

We have substantial flaws in the infrastructure of our society and our movement.

A vast majority of schoolchildren are routinely subjected to ideological brainwashing in the gummint skewels.

The media have been a long-term problem and now Fox is defecting to reflexive moderation.

A million babies a year are still being slaughtered in utero with no end in sight and the killers are now found to be parting out dead babies for their organs but the GOP "leaders" and their sycophants in Congress absolutely REFUSE to even attempt to defund the Planned Barrenhood chop shops while Trump tells us that his thoroughly pro-abort sister (a federal judge) would make a terrific SCOTUS judge.

Meanwhile, that courageous Christian lady who is a Kentucky County Clerk voluntarily submits to being imprisoned for "contempt" by Federal Judge Bunning for refusing to issue "marriage" licenses to fudge-packers which licenses would violate God's Law, Kentucky law, common sense and the US Constitution whatever drama queen Sandra Day O'Kennedy may hallucinate. Trump, asked at his press conference on Thursday, feigned ignorance to dodge giving his opinion on the matter. Care to guess how his sister would rule?

I could go on and on but what is the point. Trump is like the Black Plague. Either the fever will run its course or it will kill our country and our movement which are its hosts. The enemy is now within our gates. The only antidotes are time and the remote possibility of a revival of common sense.

I am reaching the point where I have little desire to spoil the fun of the Trump enthusiasts who are unlikely to listen to me in any event. Instead, I am going back to the books. I will finish my latest reading of Thomas a' Kempis's Imitation of Christ, perhaps acquire and read St. John of the Cross's Dark Night of the Soul, re-read all of Scripture (Douay-Rheims Challoner edition of the late 16th century), steep myself in the Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers and the history of the American Revolution and of the Second American Revolution of 1861-1865 (to remind myself of what this country was SUPPOSED to be about), re-read Friedrich von Hayek's Road to Serfdom (we shall soon need its lessons), Ludwig von Mises (almost anything), the encyclicals, books, plays of Pope Saint John Paul II, and encyclicals of Popes Saint Pius X, Pius XII, John Paul I, and Benedict XVI (while I and the world await the election of an actually Catholic pope), Dietrich von Hildebrand, Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago and other works, Boris Pasternak's Dr. Zhivago, The Black Book of Communism, Whittaker Chambers' Witness, and other literature to prepare for the imminent age of darkness. That will give me plenty productive to do while not engaging in arguments that seem unlikely to win.

I write the foregoing with the utmost respect for you while disagreeing vehemently with Trump's candidacy. If it turns out that you are right and I am wrong, no one will be happier than I. None of the foregoing is directed personally at you and I have been pondering its contents in response to my disappointment at public reaction to Trump. He is not quite as bad as Romney but he has a loooooong way to go to convince me to vote for him no matter who his opponent may be.

Until we meet again, God bless you and yours!

Scott Walker has shown who he is in Wisconsin, and who he’s willing to fight and for what.

March 28, 2015: “I made it clear that for me, if somebody wants to be a citizen, they need to go back to their country of origin, get in line, no preferential treatment,” Walker said. “In terms of what to do beyond that, again, that’s something we got to work with Congress on.”

Thats because instead of living up to their online chest beating boasts of conservatism, people on the right are acting EXACTLY like an Obamabot worshiping hopeandchange at the Pillars of Styro.

Trump’s history does not align with his promises. Period.

Windy I love ya like a brother. But Ted Cruz should have the vast majority of the people Trump now enjoys. And the reason he does not I just listed above.

Ted Cruz’ history does align with his promises.

We deserve who we vote for.

He has no intention of winning. He is a Trojan horse. He is going to drop out some time in January and endorse Bush, Rubio, or Kasich.

That's quite ridiculous...If Trump passes the torch to any one it will be Cruz...

Why are you posting a slam piece on Donald Trump? Shouldn’t you be pimping Mitt Walker?

Not workable...You see it all the time in the workplace...Walker and the others have nothing significant to offer...It wouldn't matter which one of those won the contest...They all make the same meaningless promises we've been hearing for decades...

They're all the same...They're all bought and paid for by the same people...They've all got the same message...It comes down to a matter of personality...

The only way to bring attention to the group is to try to knock down Trump ...
