Donald Trump says he has great affection for Ben Carson, but hes not so sure Carson has the right experience to be president.
The billionaire businessman and Republican presidential frontrunner explained why in an extensive interview with The Daily Caller that covered a wide array of subjects. The interview will be published in sections over the coming days.
A Monmouth University poll of Iowa released Monday showed Trump tied with Carson for first place though Trump is quick to note that it was just one poll and that he leads the field, including Carson, in all the other recent polls.
But despite the rising threat of Carson in Iowa, Trump has not yet attacked the world-renowned neurosurgeon. Asked by TheDC whether being a doctor provides the necessary experience to be president, Trump said while Carson is a wonderful guy, he thinks it would be very tough for someone who spent his life as a surgeon to handle the job.
I think its a very difficult situation that hed be placed in, Trump elaborated. Hes really a friend of mine, I just think its a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasnt creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses. Its such a different world. Ive created tens of thousands of jobs over the years.
In the past Trump has questioned whether Ted Cruz is eligible to be president because the Texas senator was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. Cruz and Trump have since become something like BFFs on the campaign trail, refusing to criticize each other and even scheduled to appear together at an upcoming rally in Washington against the nuclear deal with Iran. Asked whether he still thinks Cruz might not be eligible to be president, Trump said, based on everything I see, theres no problem.
Because other people have brought it up, and it seems like the legal scholars have all been satisfied, he went on. It was never a big point for me, but I have watched other people question him, and the legal scholars have been satisfied.
President Barack Obama has been criticized by many Republicans, including Trump, for his regular golf outings. But would Trump, who is an avid golfer and owns many golf courses throughout the world, regularly hit the links if he makes it to the Oval Office?
The problem with the president, hes played more than people on the PGA tour, Trump quipped. He plays a lot. Hes like a touring professional in terms of the amount of play.
Golf can be a great tool for making deals, but you cant play with your friends, you have to play with people that youre looking to for instance, playing with [House Speaker] John Boehner and playing with [Senate leader Mitch] McConnell and playing with people that you need to make deals with, Trump argued. It can be an amazing tool for getting things done and for making deals.
With that being said, you want to play it the proper number of times, he went on. If the president would use golf as a tool more than he does, I think it would be very positive.
Trump often cites how rich he is as a sign of his success and, in turn, a qualification to be President of the United States. By that standard, would someone richer than him, like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, be more qualified for the presidency?
Thats different, Trump replied. Honestly, I dont think Id swap assets, to be honest with you. Ive seen that stuff go up and down. I have very, very solid stuff. To me, I love real estate because you can feel it. A lot of people, theyll make five hundred million dollars by doing some new computer game, but I dont consider that I consider that sort of different. I consider that paper.
I did it in real estate, he explained, and as real estate goes, this is about as high as you go.
Obama wasnt particularly concerned about anything ...but getting paid...himself
I believe what he’s saying is that he knows how to stimulate business because he knows what works to make a business grow. Therefore there will be job growth.
Are you drunk, lol.
If you can say it better than he can..youre better qualified than he is...
How about in private practice, they are going to have 1-2 people working the desk, 2-3 assistants, someone doing billing and coding, someone transcribing notes, maybe a tech for lab and radiology work.
That’s all handled by the office manager, not the doctor.
I need a GP and a Vet in my day to day ...
The GP to sew me up when I get an owie
The Vet to keep my puppy up to date
My GP and I have not seen eye to eye for 20 years but he is starting to come around ... first with my diet and then with politics... hell of a nice guy and good with stitches (my most common visit with him) and he takes cash, hates Obamacare
I think next time I go see him I’ll bring him a Sixpack and a Dozen Eggs, 20 years ago he would have taken that as an insult, today I think it would garner a smile.
Carson is for amnesty and gun control.
Medical Doctors are considered the highest paid blue collar profession.
Yes, this is true.
You need either black skin or a vagina in the next election.
You were probably never even a Communist youth homosexual Community Organizer!
Hah!
Trump can be such an idiot.
It will become the "Concierge Practice Model".
IF allowed by your personal liberty gov’t.
We love out Dogters. They may have to administer to us in the near future....
I need a GP and a Vet in my day to day ...”
In a pinch one could substitute for the other so both handy to have around. Considering what a dozen eggs costs now, he might be very happy.
There is a huge change in coding coming to the health industry on October 1. Med students and brand new doctors will probably do fine because their training has included coding and data input. Older docs who believe in a strong relationship with their patients and rely on experience and visual cues are going to have difficulty. Every symptom will have a number and those numbers will add up to a government defined treatment plan. I can see the time when we will all be sitting down in front of a computer, filing out a form ourselves and bean counters behind the scene will have already defined what we need without any personal input from an experienced Medical Doctor. A Ben Carson as Surgeon General could certainly go a long way toward stopping this madness called Obamacare this is ruining one of the best medical systems in the entire world.
“Doctors Don’t Create Jobs”
Neither does government.
The only creator of economic growth, wealth, and jobs is the market economy FREE of government interference.
And billionaire CEOs don’t send soldiers to fight in wars.
Ignoring that job creation isn’t the government’s job, if Trump is trying to show that Carson isn’t good for the job, he should point to something other than his work history.
Actually most medical practices have multiple doctor providers to pool office staff to save money. It is
very rare for one doctor to run multiple offices.
One of the doctors in my wife’s job has 2 locations,
but at one of those location he has no staff.
All his paper work is done at the main location.
Comparing Zuckerberg to peons are we? I'll let it slide this one time.
I only see my GP when I break something or slice something, it is at that time he says “Hey” you haven’t had bloodwork etc and he does his thing, we argue about beer and eggs and bacon ...
My bloodwork is consistantly better than his and I do not follow his dietary reccomendations ... (I like Meat, Eggs and Beer)
My Buddy (we are friends) is a Veggie, Red Wine kinda guy, he weighs less than I (tall with no Beer Gut) but he is a lousy Fisherman ... he is really good at cleaning them though!
I normally agree with a lot you say but many here seem to have missed the point - Trump was touting his business acumen and he is correct - he knows a lot more about the sort of climate that will be advantageous to creation of businesses and jobs - something that would be very useful to us.
Who are you supporting? Do you donate to their campaign? Do you donate to FR? If "no" is a good answer for the donation questions, then I suggest you join those who are taking positive action instead of just spouting negatives while others make the decisions about who ends up on the final ticket:
