Since when in America is it a right to hit someone's vehicle with a football??? If you move to Hartselle, Alabama it is a right here. Boys playing sports trump any kind of property rights (hitting vehicles and houses, breaking windows, tearing up people's lawns). And don't you dare say anything to the parent as their response is, "Our kids need to get out of the house away from video games and play sports." While I agree with that argument, they don't have to tear up people's property. Last night, I went to the father of a boy who hit my truck with a football thrown like a rocket. I made a sound like a blast. The ball hit pretty hard. The dad was on his way to work, so I was just going to let him know about the incident not take up his time. After telling the dad what happened, he yelled at me. "Did it do any damage?!?" he yelled. "No, not really," I replied. He screamed at me more, "Then what's the problem!?! Call the police!!!" This will never be resolved because no kid today ever does anything wrong. I expected that the father would say something like, "OK, I will have a talk with junior about not hitting cars." Instead, all I got was yelled at. My how society has fallen.
Yeah Nerf pretty much only makes toy guns now. But the basic idea holds. If they didn’t break anything what’s the bother? Kids will be kids, and kids will miss. And if you get the reputation for being the grumpy neighbor the kids will torment you. Our area’s grumpy neighbor would freak out if anybody got close to being on his property line, if one of our toys got even a foot on his property, even so close we could get it while still being on the sidewalk, he’d come out yelling at us. Everything that hit his property was “gone”. So one day one of us grabbed a notepad and we started making paper airplanes. Technically we weren’t throwing them onto his property, but we sure didn’t mind if they landed there. And of course we didn’t retrieve them. So then he throws one of his fits and starts yelling until parents come out, complaining about all the paper airplanes all over his yard. And our answer was “well we’d clean them up but we get yelled at for even being on your sidewalk”. Somehow he managed to not have a heart attack over that one, and he actually toned it down a bit, and we could actually retrieve some of our toys. Never stopped being the grumpy neighbor though, and we never stopped hating him.
The moral of the story being, if they didn’t break anything don’t turn it into a confrontation. You’re out numbered, the neighborhood kids will win. Ask them to be a little more careful, keep it calm, and the neighborhood will remain peaceful. Keep turning it into yelling matches and someday you’ll find dozens of airplanes decorating your yard.
My son flipped my brand new Honda( he’s fine the Honda not so much) and he is worried about a football hitting is old truck.
Are you under some sort of delusion this is some sort of recent development? Did they have TV when you were young? Did you not see that that was a trope even then? Have the kids torn up your lawn and broken your windows? If so, then why didn’t you mention THAT to the parents, instead of an incident you admit caused no damage.

But they will need to be watched 24/7 or else someone will call the police on you. God forbid we have free range parenting.
I remember leaving the house after breakfast and not coming home until the streetlights came on. And I survived!
Pickup trucks are unique in that they are the only vehicles that actually look better with a few dents and scratches.
Finding decent window glass replacement can be another matter.
Sometimes these things skip a generation.
A pickup needs "character". Every dent is a story.

I work insurance claims. It is never the fault of the precious, little kiddies.

Back then cars were made to withstand a little abuse. Cars of today get dented and fall apart if looked at cross eyed.
Despite No Trespassing signs, I find evidence of trespassing(done when we’re not at home to nip it in the bud)in my backyard . Its gotten to where I’d better inspect the back yard before mowing the lawn. Once, I ran over some slob’s beer bottle with my push mower. If I hadn’t raised the mower in order to get through the tall grass, the mower would have been damaged and me injured. Respect for private property is vanishing from America.

Same here. I'm 64 and I still do that at times, though the Mrs. doesn't appreciate it sometimes...

You keep saying you don’t have property rights anymore, but then say your car wasn’t damaged? Had your car been damaged, the father would be responsible for it. I don’t understand the beef?
You certainly have the right to kick them off your property. Just be advised that if you do that, in 5 years they’ll be throwing beer bottles and toilet paper and you’ll be sleeping.
