To: Hardens Hollow
I learned code so early that I don't remember NOT knowing it.

While I was in the AF the first time, I let my licence lapse. One of my ex-wives wanted her license, so I took her up there.

They talked me into taking the test. Code was the easy part. I had to do real math on the rest of it.

I got my 14 WPM, and stopped at Advanced since they are/did/will phase that out for Extra. I wanted a weird license, so I've got that one until it expires. Won't be long. 2018. I'll worry about it if I live that long. Then I'll get extra.

I first learned some Morse when I was a little kid, and my brother got this amazing Christmas gift: a huge battery-run Aircraft Carrier toy, with planes that you could launch off the deck, and instruction cards for sending coded messages.

All I remembered was SOS - because that was the most important, of course :-)
