SIKESTON, Mo., - A diner filed a lawsuit Monday against a Missouri restaurant famous for its "throwed rolls" after a piece of bread hit her and caused an injury.
Troy Tucker sued Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, Mo., after she said she was hit by a roll and "sustained a lacerated cornea with a vitreous detachment and all head, neck, eyes and vision were severely damaged" in September 2014, WDAF-TV, St. Louis, Mo., reported.
She is seeking $25,000 to pay for her medical bills and legal fees. The lawsuit said Lambert's Cafe should know about the dangers caused by throwing rolls.
Jerry Johnson, the general manager of the restaurant, told KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the employees never mean to injure anyone when they throw rolls. He said people have tried to sue the restaurant in the past, and in some cases, the company's insurance has paid the cost of medical bills.
It's unclear if Tucker has a case for her allegations of "carelessness and negligence" against Lambert's Cafe. There are multiple signs inside and and outside the restaurant calling it "Home of Throwed Rolls."
The food must taste like crap if they have to use a stupid gimmick like throwing food to bring people in.
I’ve been there countless times over the past fifty years. Seemingly every church group, Scout troop, Senior Citizens group, and youth baseball team in the South stop there on the way to, and often from, St. Louis, which is a very common destination because of the Cardinals, Arch, and Six Flags. There is always a crazy line, so I would rather not stop, but my kids love it and I always appreciate the “pass arounds” and the rolls. It’s a fun place and an institution in this region. I would hate to see them stop throwing rolls because of a lawsuit.
Tucker claims she was hit in the eye by a “throwed roll” and suffered a detached cornea.
Now she says she has impaired vision.
But some are defending Lambert’s saying you expect to have rolls lobbed at you.
It’s advertised in the restaurant’s slogan and one reason it’s such a large tourist attraction.
“Oh I just think that this is a great place,” said Emily Moore. “It’s a fun place. I don’t come here that often even though I’m a native of the area and I just think it’s wonderful. And it’s really shocking to think that someone would actually sue Lambert’s for a throwed roll. ‘Cause that’s what they’re known for.”
Lambert’s general manager, Jerry Johnson, said servers never intend to hurt anyone when they throw those rolls.
Johnson also said this isn’t the first time someone has sought money after getting hit by an errant roll.
He did say in some of those cases the restaurant’s insurance paid for medical expenses.

It’s called fun. And if it’s so boorish and deadly, maybe she should go somewhere else.
Wasn’t the original award somewhere in the range of $23 Million? Still $640K is a nice chunk of change when you consider that it was mostly due to her negligence.
theyve been doing it for decades. im amazed it’s taken this long actually. restaurant is kind of a “largest balll of twine” attraction down there so they are doing alright money wise. they should just pay her bills and move on.
yes, that is all true- but SHE SPILLED HER OWN HOT COFFEE
It’s an amazing place and the rolls are warm, light, soft and fluffy. And oh so good!
Assumption of risk. And they don’t throw unless you ask them to.
No she didn’t, the lid was not put on and it spilled when they handed it to her from the drive through window.
NO, NO, NO! The food tastes great! People come from a hundred miles or more to eat there. When we lived in the St Louis area we would occasionally make a day of it, driving down to Sikeston. Sometimes would have to want 2 hours to just get it. The food is down home country food and lots or it! They bring around “pass arounds” like friend okra while you are waiting. And the rolls!!!
Everyone knows about the roll throwing. It has gone on for years. My son even got hit in the head once. No worse for the wear! I guess it is possible to be injured by one but I doubt it. Sounds like a chance hit. I bet hundreds have been hit over the years with no injuries. Btw, the rolls are fabulous! If you are ever close Kirkwood, you need to stop by! You will be glad you did! And, oh, if you order pork chops or a steak and want another one all you have to do is ask and they will bring you another, at no extra charge! A wonderful place!
Ditto!
Sometimes the NSA snoop assigned to Free Republic will mistakenly paste a copied FR post back on FR instead of on the NSA server.
At least that's my best guess.
I've also enjoyed six eye surgeries, from detached retinas to cornea transplants. Not a doctor but I have been a pincushion for many.
There is no way those soft rolls “cause” a cornea detachment without a major preexisting condition. Still, as we have seen, the expenses of a lawsuit get paid by the deepest pockets.
Judge should award medical costs and nothing for the lawyers.
hey! i gots an idear! let’s go to a restaurant that we know throws stuff! what can possibly go wrong?
That must have been one STALE roll!
I was thinking it was a “roll” of gray tape to cause the severe injuries she described.
Yes, but MickyDs deliberately jacked up the temperature into the hazardously hot zone to keep people from taking advantage of the free refills as it would take too long to cool the first cup to drinkable temperature.
