All money is imaginary. As soon as people lose the faith in the currency it is worthless. Stockpile necessary items for trade or trade your talents (assuming there is enough of a civilized society left) It is a good time to be old. Lead in a deliverable for is the one exception.

Hey, leave Kartographer alone! His warnings regularly seen here on Free Republic and all the information and help that accompany his pings, probably have saved lives during disasters for readers of his posts and will save them if our country takes a steep dive.

Let’s add to the store of wisdom and let each take what merit they will. And I don’t care a tinker’s you know what, if he profits in any way large or small. Long live the free market of ideas.

silver and gold are representations of wealth that cannot be easily diluted or forged.

throughout history, gold would be about 40-50 silver (ounces here). today, it’s about 75 silver per gold... very high.

when the shtf, all paper currency will be worthless. commodity assets like fruits, meats, grains will have value. as will medicines and modern products like cigarettes, generators, etc. as production is no longer within the US, scarcity will make the value of most goods skyrocket.

the fact that people are planning for such a contingency is thanks to the left. remember that the next time you run into a liberal or see 0failure on the tv

I like dimes. Those minted in 1964 or earlier are 90% silver and you can pack more in a small volume than any other denomination of coinage.

Pulled out a couple thousand last month. They had trouble ponying up the cash. Had to accept different denominations.

Also got the “know your customer” inquisition from the bank manager...at a bank where I’ve held accounts for 15 years.

Perhaps the most interesting change at the bank is that both tellers and the manager were Indians (of the dot in forehead variety).

We live in interesting times.

If you are prioritizing staple and supllies then you must be in an impregnable bunker to stay in place for months or longer

But many folks can’t stay put

They have to consider a bug out plan

Junk silver and small denomination gold coin carries easier than cases of baked beans, sacks of flour and cases of toilet paper if you have to strike out and hope to end up in a safer friendlier place and than start trading for supplies

And if you never have to eat your gold , you can cash it in to pay for land, college or a wedding

It's going to be hard to beat www.kitco.com for prices and delivery on buying silver and gold.
I recommend one ounce bars, rather than coins, but what do I know?
Leave them sealed in the clear package that they come in.

The Survival Mom is an excellent blog and she recently had an update on buying silver.

I agree! Junk silver coins (purchased at a low premium) would be a good thing to have on hand for trade, along with essential comodities.

Cash needed to buy prepper stuff now?
More cash and silver needed when SHTF?
I am so screwed.

No one way covers all situations! But you wouldn’t beleive the grief I got over saying if I had one gallon of water or one can of beans for my family there isn’t enough gold to buy either.

On the one hand bars are cheaper than coins. On the other hand, many homeowners policies will only insure PM coins (not bars). That's assuming you want your insurer to know you have the PMs in exchange for insuring risk of loss now (yes, I'm aware of the boating accidents where guns, ammo, and PMs are tragically lost).

I noticed that on Ebay 1964 silver quarters always get a premium. Ammo will be in high demand. And Tacos or guacamole, OLE’!!!!.

Thank you for another good post Kart.

IMHO - precious metals might be nice to have as you prep for the apocalypse if you have some money left AFTER you have enough food, ammo, seeds, tools, etc., etc., etc. to last a looooong time.

You can’t eat a silver dime or a gold ingot.

To: Kartographer; All

as one commentator said “ we are 9 meals away from anarchy”

Go on YouTube and watch a 1.5 hour show called “ After Armegeddon”

As a prepper, kinda makes you go “ hmmmmm....”
