The drivers have been convicted of child exploitation, identity theft, manslaughter and driving under the influence, according to court records. Each offense would make them ineligible for a city of Los Angeles taxi permit.
The criminal histories recently came to light when a representative of the taxi industry presented a city official with a binder containing citations and court records for eight Uber drivers who were cited for minor violations at the airport over the last 18 months.

I sense that theres a management problem of massive proportions about to explode over at uber
Who’s surprised?
Uber will attract people shunned from employment because of arrest / conviction record.
Is this bad?
If not Uber, these people can only become wards of the state, or commit more crimes.
At least they know to have good Facebook rep, and good reviews.
I agree with you. Without question, some Uber drivers will commit crimes, but ought we not take the liberal viewpoint, this gives them a way to support themselves without committing crimes if they did NOT have this source of money.
so what
Who knew there was a criteria that taxi drivers had to meet?
the ceo of Uber said his goal is to make privately owned cars undesirable.
IOW make society enslaved to go only where uber is allowed to go.
Hmmm, I wonder how many cab drivers have criminal convictions that would bar them from driving a cab, yet they’re still allowed to do so?
will never happen. Uber is after the pajama bois.
but when the pj bois try to mount a campaign, they will be reminded by the adults.
“Who knew there was a criteria that taxi drivers had to meet?”
I thought little to no English was a requirement. Maybe no prior record (of driving skill or a driver’s license).
There is absolutely no bias involved in the taxi industry. Nope. None whatsoever. By the way, how did the taxi industry collect such an extensive database of info from the police on citation records? Is that all publicly available? If so, one should mine the same info for infractions by taxi drivers.
90% of taxi drivers are an assortment of Moslems and Africans. All their crimes were in the third world and are undiscoverable. I think ill roll the dice with Uber.
“Who knew there was a criteria that taxi drivers had to meet?”
Well, since many of them are VERY recent immigrants, they haven’t had the time for criminal activity, because they are working driving taxis. Seems logical.
Agreed. It’s going to be a disaster. Nothing but a cash grab at any cost.
I use Lyft a fair amount as I really can’t drive anymore. And shouldn’t. The drivers are much more thoroughly vetted. MUCH better service I have found.
If Uber has a problem with their drivers, they will address the problem, or they will be out of business. Criminal checks are readily available as well as other screening techniques. I’ve never used Uber, but I suspect that drivers that receive complaints might find themselves out of the pool before long. That’s how business work. That is not how government and the union works, so once taxi drivers have a medallion or a union driver job, killing a customer is usually the first cautionary threshold. Multiple homicides will might even bring your taxi career to an end.
The story is only notable because Uber claims to run criminal background checks on their drivers. So it raises the question of whether Uber is lying, or incompetent. Personally, I prefer Uber to government controlled taxis, but Uber needs to get their act together or else they will end up forced to join the taxi cartel.
Thanks.
Since illegals use multiple fake ID’s, probably a lot.
