Jason Falbo was sentenced to a year behind bars for killing nine ducklings with his lawnmower. (Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office)

WELLINGTON, Fla. – A Florida landscaper who ran over a family of ducks with his riding lawnmower has been sentenced to a year in jail.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 24-year-old Jason Scott Falbo II last week after he pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty charges.

Authorities say Falbo mowed down the ducks May 2 at the home of a family caring for them in Wellington. Police say nine ducklings died, while their mother and two ducklings survived.

The family says the ducklings were just a few days old. Boyd Jentzsch told police his family, including his 7-year-old son, watched from inside their home, screaming as the ducks were run over.

Also last week, Falbo pleaded guilty to domestic battery in an unrelated incident about a month before the duckling deaths.

Some people can go through years of life not being completely sober, not being completely un-buzzed from the ganja. To them, life is not real, it’s more like a Grand Auto video game,. where you get ‘points’ for hitting your target, any target. This year of lock up might be the wake up call or the proverbial Kick In The Ass he’s been cruising for.

“I hope there is more to this story.”

Also last week, Falbo pleaded guilty to domestic battery in an unrelated incident about a month before the duckling deaths.

(From the cited article)

Another article called it “domestic strangulation”.

Animal cruelty threads always seem devolve into seeing who can be more callous, make the best grilling joke, or who can get their abortion comment in. It’s not the ducks. Succumbing to disease and predation in the wild is normal, we get that, but an individual who goes out of his way to kill them in the most ghastly way possible, simply for jollies, points to a deeper pathology. That’s why he got a year in the clink.

...

They shouldn’t have been feeding them.

Running them over with a lawnmower is considered cruel, but it’s probably no more cruel than what happens to most of them in the wild.

What are you in for? I killed some ducks

And they all moved away from me, on the Group W bench...

"And domestic assault and battery"

... And then they all moved back next to me... and we was having a great time talking about wife beating and father raping and duck killin'...

I have seen drivers deliberately swerve to run over an animal in the street. I hope they go to hell. If somebody can’t tell the difference between deliberately running over baby ducks with a lawn mower and eating meat, their brain isn’t wired right.

Last year a squirrel darted in front of my car, there was nothing I could do, I saw what happened in my rear view mirror, I was sick to my stomach.

They used to teach us in Driver’s Ed many years ago that if you can avoid an animal in the street, you can avoid a child. Now that we’re being told to run over animals in the street, how long until we’re told to run over children? They’re just un-aborted fetuses, after all.

What a crock! A landscaper. So he could have been simply mowing the lawn and hit the ducks without knowing?
Tss - what a pathetic smear story and pathetic support for animal righters who think it is ‘just’ to JAIL someone because he killed some birds.
Yes, our country is doomed because of such radically misplaced priorities (among other signs).

Re: “Ducklings are worth more than babies.”

Look, I am as Pro-Life as one can get. I’ve even spent some jail time for blocking an abortion mill during an Operation Rescue event several years ago, but what this guy did was inexcusable.

Does it deserve jail time? I don’t know, but this guy should be publicly shamed in some way for callous disregard for God’s creation. This guy is sick and has issues.

Of course, in certain driving conditions for health/safety issues animals must be put down or killed to protect human life. Human life supersedes animals, but that is no excuse for deliberately slaughtering these helpless creatures.

He not only ran over the ducklings, he then laughed with glee and BACKED over them again. This is a ghoul without a soul. Prison is too good for him. I’d like to see him flayed with a cat o’ nine tails until he bleeds real good, like the poor ducklings. He also had a warrant about violence to humans, so this is an all-around piece of muck.
