I need the recommendation of an HR attorney / law firm in North Texas regarding an HR issue. At work, you can get 20 notices of "yeah, same sex marriage!" postings on the internal intranet. I posted one link to an article discussing why Obgerfell was such a radical decision, didn't even post the text. Was reprimanded that this was: A. a violation of diversity policy B. offensive to lbgta C. politicking at work
Had a separate issue where a woman asked for advice regarding her husband wanting to cheat on her with a man, but keep the family together. I advised that if she'd tolerate him cheating, whether with a man or woman, get disease testing, lay down strict rules on the propriety and don't let him waste her money on that person. And if she wanted to leave, I could refer her to a good divorce attorney. I was told this was homophobic and an inappropriate topic at work. I said an aggrieved woman was asking for advice, so if my response was inappropriate, so was the whole discussion. I stated to HR that a woman with four young children under 10 was seeking advice, so I gave what was normal advice 20 years ago. And the fact that she was repeatedly referred to spouses of same sex groups meant I was the only contrary opinion ... That was a prior warning.
Another case had a guy asking about advice on his 17 year old son coming out at homosexual at 15, now decides he's transgendered. Father asked advice, I said counseling to rectify mind with reality. That was homophobic/transphobic.
Telling a woman whose husband left her for a guy that it was so tragic a 30 year marriage ended led to a direct challenge with someone else. I stated that it was sad that he abandoned his family due to his feelings, that do what you feel trumps do what you promised to do and had been doing for decades.
I've received written warnings for these issues, in the past year. Don't want to get fired with this type of negative file, don't know what to do otherwise.
Large facility, defense contractor, management moving left as fast or faster than Obama, in the name of tolerance and diversity.
The HR director actually did a seminar on “What white men really think”.
Now they’re lecturing people on unconscious bias.
Naw. He murdered his wife. Jimmy Stewart saw the whole thing!
Conservatives need to keep a low profile these days in the corporate world, especially with multi-nationals. I would almost consider yours to be a hostile work environment and would consider moving on. I know my next venture will be either trying to start my own business or working at a much smaller place. Money and benefits are important but I’d be willing to work for less to not have to deal with all the pro homo trans crap and not be able to speak my mind about it.
I can totally empathize with your plight...
The company that I’m employed with does a lot of this...I just ignore it and don’t participate in or initiate any discussion relating to these topics, at all.
I’m looking for other employment, but I’ve found that just about any company with more than 50 employees is going to have some kind of similar policies...
Keep in mind, if you want the “king’s gold”, you gotta play by the king’s rules...it’s tough out there.
I’d suggest you consider whether this is a hill worth dying on...
In the case of one of the same sex marriage issues, the company did a page and a half expose on a guy talking about how great it was to come out at work, eventually his family and young children supported him. The matter came up, I gave an opinion.
Company mandatory training on these issues.
Private discussions that come up, though my father suggested I may be baited as an open conservative at work.
I’m not talking about these things constantly at work, but HR, management and employees in ERGs do. And any contrary opinion is now deemed a violation of diversity rules.
Other people at work are discussing these matters.
In some cases, I was reported by others in the conversation for “homophobic” remarks. In others, the instant message conversation I had was sent to HR.
I feel for you, I do. But you have to ZIP it at work from now on. If you’re fired, you can bet the company will be careful to fire you for a reason unrelated to your views. ZIP IT!!!
“Company mandatory training on these issues.”
One place I worked at, it was interesting getting sexual harassment training from female HR babes dressed in attire that made hookers look conservative. Just have to play the game and move on.
BTW the boss is walking your way I saw him walk in a second ago {just kidding about that part. One last word of advice. NEVER assume any conversation over any communication network analog or digital is private.
Ironmason.
Doessn't matter if others are discussing it, and if you are using company resources or time to IM, that is likely a separate offense. You have been given good advice on this thread. Your best course is to discuss nothing that is not directly job related. If you get fired, you will likely be marked and find it very difficult to get another job, plus an attorney will not likely be able to help you based on the information you have provided.
Funny how the word diversity has been re-purposed to mean “lockstep”. It’s what liberals do.
Just stop commenting on anything that is personal/political.
It’s the only way to rectify it. HR could be setting you up. Don’t give them any ammo. My cookie cutter reply is “no comment”, if they persist suggest they go talk to someone that has that training in HR.
Then walk away.
These sorts of conversations shouldn’t be happening on company intranets anyway. The only advice you should have given publicly was that this was not professional behavior on their part.
You are going to get a much delayed reply from me seeming to join a pile on. Sorry in advance. My comments are being delayed by moderation because I’m new.
You should learn quickly not to go against the preferred narrative. There is a pecking order of the privileged and it shifts constantly.
Lead, follow or get out of the way.
IIWM I’d be looking for another job.
You simply have to realize that as a hetero you are now a second class citizen.
You don’t need an attorney.
You need a muzzle.
Shut up and keep your opinions to yourself, regardless of who is asking for what.
You might have gotten a clue from the written warnings you state that you’ve received.
Have you considered working at work?
