he Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies has issued an orange alert for the underwater volcano Kickem Jenny, after strong and sustained signals were recorded in the early hours of this morning suggesting than an eruption could occur with less than 24-hours notice.
Instruments monitoring the volcano, located 8km north of Grenada (12.3000° N, 61.6400° W), recorded strong, continuous activity between 1:25 a.m. and 3.am. Grenada, as well as St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago are particularly on alert.
Signs of elevated seismicity began on July 11 and continue to present. For the period since July 11, a total of more than 200 micro and small earthquakes, of varying magnitudes, have been recorded, with the largest, prior to the strong signal, less than magnitude 3.0, the SRC reported. This activity is being closely monitored by the UWI-SRC and further updates would be issued as more information becomes available, the centre said.

Maybe they shouldn’t name a volcano “Kick ‘em Jenny”? They could be egging it on!
From two days ago.
Strange name for a volcano
Blow’em Monica would have been better.

I thought this was going to be a joke thread when I saw the name.
Thanks for this thread as I have a daughter and SIL in Gennada. The SIL is going to vet school there.
s/b Grenada, sheesh
A new island coming?
Jamaican Bobsled team. You call yourself a kartographer? :)
Yes, it is a new island coming, but since it is still around 900 feet below the surface, it will be a while. It is at the southern end in the chain along the eastern edge of the Caribbean Plate that includes Martinique with Mt. Pelee, St. Vincent with La Soufriere, and other active and sometimes troublesome volcanoes. See link below for detailed reporting by National Geographic on early disasters and activity.
Cleaning keyboard ...
They’ll probably have to give the island a different name, what a shame though.
