Just returned from big lawn party here in DC. Not a hugely exclusive one, but loads of people, many upper level career Dept. of State types, retired general/flag rank military and agency types (now consultants,) foreign government officials and the usual Washington riff raff.
Background: Many DOS do not like Obama/Kerry. Many military and agency retirees hate them. There is a certain lets win for America thought process, (to a much greater or much less extent,) that runs through all DOS/DOD/CIA/etc. Although there are huge differences in HOW they would achieve that win, there were very few people who ever rooted for the other team. Most of those hard-leftists Sandinista lovers departed during/after Reagan-Bush.
Please note Important! I am not talking about political types, those that come and go with each administration. No Obama-Hillary-Kerry people were invited to this event. This was not an event for them. This was the Good Ole Boy (and Girl) network.
Please remember, Im not talking about political types, Big Rs or Big Ds. These are all good Americans, some who differ greatly in how we should win, but all on our team. Trust me, everyone in this crowd raised a glass when the Gorby threw in the towel.
Now that is understood, please also understand that most attendees do not like Obama, Hillary and Kerry. They work at State, and/or are very well connected there or DOD/Agency, even some foreign intel types. At best, OHK are thought of as not fitting, not a sure thing, political hacks wobbly amateurs "way too left." After a few, cocktails, some are very vehement in their HATE of OHK
Now the good part: This is the inside from many of the people there. Obama did not put the release of 3 of the American hostages in Iran into the announced Iran Nuc Deal, because he is holding the release of that information as a trump card for when Senate takes up confirmation of deal.
In reality, Iran never did care about hostages. They can always grab more next month.
Stop and think about this deal confirmation without Obamas scheming. Obama can lose big in either of two ways here. If deal is declined by Senate and his veto overridden, (all depends on the Senator from New York and Israel Chuck Schumer), and deal dies, he loses big politically, here and abroad.
If his veto is not overridden (initial disapproval vote is assured) and deal goes into effect, 75% of America will be very angry after all the televised hearings, etc.
So, regardless of pass or fail, Obama loses.
Heres how he wins. Just as the deal is coming to vote, Obama announces live on TV that he heard our pain and he has quietly but vigorously pressured Tehran to release hostages, and they have!
You can hear the speech now; America spoke and I listened. These three brave American patriots are on an airplane clear of Iranian airspace as I speak!
Next; big welcome home ceremony in Rose Garden; Obama is the master diplomat; we can work with Iran; they are reasonable people; we can trust Iran to do the right thing; Beau Bergdahl is yesterdays news, etc.
The spin is simple; Obama is the hero, and deal sails through, and Obama wins big. (Of course, America loses.)
According to long time trusted sources, who are in a position to know, the deal with Tehran is already in place. It wasnt released earlier to Obama can use it when he needs it, and can be the hero!
Now you know why they didnt publicly push for hostage deal. It was there, under the table all the time, and of course, Iran can always grab more hostages the next time they need them . And Obama wins big in the court of stupid public opinion.
Its the Chicago Way.
So what does your group say was Obama’s underlying motivation to even make this deal with Iran?
A lawn party on a Sunday night? Dont they get enough of one another at work?
Can’t get s-faced and chase each others’ wives at work.
Who did they reveal this secret fo shizzle to? One another?
And trusted old “walk a mile in my moccasins” friends.
They have to get a load on to express their true feelings about OHK?
I don’t, but I’m not still on the gubermnt t*t.
Do I ask too many questions?
What questions?
Thx for your service and thx for the lawn memo
Obama’s thoughts?
Can only report mine. He hates Israel, and a strong America. It’s that simple.
Kerry is even easier. At Paris Peace Talks, in ‘72, Lt. Kerry, USNR, was all but the NVA/PAVN/VC spokesperson. He never changed. He just better at hiding it.
Thanx, but just an old school Mer-can.
A compliment is like a pocket full of money, both are prosperity, say thank ya and go on
Wow. When you are stuck working for a crap company and a crap boss, there eventually will be a point when you realize, why am I working for these people. After leaving Ambassador Stevens to be raped, tortured and brutalized for hours, you still think they give a rats behind about you or us ? Now that is loyalty. In the real world, what happens in the US now is irrelavent. Why ? Because the US made itself irrelavent. The only nuclear superpower in the Middle East right now is all that matters. And DC incompetence has united them in a way they rarely are.
This would fit his policy of paying off pirates for hostages... with bombs to bomb us!!!
This is the exact language he is seeking.
Could be. Thanks for the heads-up.
I can more easily picture them scheming to spit one final time in our faces by releasing the Iranian scientist and never intending to get our hostages back. But maybe that’s just me.
Now that’s funny!
Your thoughts?
Bkmrk for later...will be interesting to see if the career govvies are correct.
Anyone you talked to, lawn party or not, is out of the loop.
Tomorrow/Monday morning the Iran deal gets voted on by the UN, not by Congress, and what Congress is voting on has no bearing on what the UN approves.
0bama has (essentially) bypassed Congress by making this a UN deal instead of a USA treaty.
...and you’ll be scrambling to explain why our 4 hostages haven’t been released.
Sorry, but the UN is all about PR, has nothing to do with the legal requirement that he send it to Senate, which he just did. Sunday, I think.
If people believe that these people were held for an extra few months in prison so Obama could score points he won’t have the political muscle to to do anything ever again. Think about how cynical this is.
I’m not saying this isn’t the case mind you but only looking at this from the standpoint of whether it becomes the common perception. Take it one step further to be truly cynical if Obama senses this could become a negative issue he can just tell the Iranians he doesn’t want them back, they would be a liability to his legacy.
And should Congress pass such a resolution of disapproval, Zero can veto it unless it passed both houses with two thirds in favor.
IOW, the RINOs lowered the bar. No way would Zero get two thirds of the Senate in favor of his abominable and detestable cave-in. However, he might well get more than a third of either house.
Days ago, I predicted what you predict::

“I suspect that the prisoner release is a very secret part of the deal. Obama will pull it out of his nether orifice at the moment he needs one more vote to get the deal through if it ever gets to a vote.”
If you answered yes to any of the above questions you get a gold star.
Cynical but plausible. Depends on how much information that is in the treaty comes out. Iran doesn’t care one way or the other they got $150B.
