Natural geothermal heating in melt-hit Antarctic region 'SURPRISINGLY high' [REAL global warming]

So it IS global warming melting it – just not the way they mean

Geothermal heating - from within the Earth's core, not the possibly warming air or sea - beneath the much-studied West Antarctic Ice Sheet has been measured for the first time ever, and been found to be "surprisingly high".

The West Antarctic sheet is the part of the Antarctic ice cap thought to be easiest to melt and thus worries over global warming and sea-level rise lead to it being investigated much more than other parts of the frozen austral continent. Some parts of it, for instance the Pine Island Glacier, have appeared at times to be melting faster and faster, though it is not clear that this is due to global warming.

At other times, ice loss to the sea has appeared to slow right down.

Meanwhile all around the rest of Antarctica, the extent of sea ice has been growing not shrinking, such that there is nowadays much more Antarctic sea ice than there used to be - a circumstance which climate scientists admit has them stumped.

It's all a very confusing picture, then, and to make it worse nobody until now has had any idea how much heat might be reaching the possibly-troubled West Antarctic sheet not from the somewhat warmer seas and atmosphere, but from the rock beneath it.

That uncertainty has now been lessened somewhat, with instrumental readings from below the ice obtained and published at last in the journal Science Advances.

Yep.

Hence:

how do they land that Hercy Bird at the other end

They drop the pontoon which are reusable.

The Herky bird can lower the wheels or the skis.

(Been there, done that. Operation Deep Freeze 64.)

Correct. In fact, anyone who's studied weather stations over the last 120 years that are located outside of urbanized areas note that the temperature differences in the last 120 years is negligible.

Good.

Now how do they put them back on for the return flight, hard runway take off, snow landing?...

No clue maybe the landing field has to be snow cover also.

So it really doesn’t matter if we drive our CO2-pollutant producing vehicles, eh?

Good.

The skis can move a bit forward and up so the tires pokes through a cutout toward the back of the ski (which you can’t really see here). This might interest you. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/lc-130.htm

I love how they use the word ‘geothermal’ instead of ‘volcanoes’...

Here's a YouTube video showing the skis retracted and the C-130 taxiing on its wheels:

Global Warming is a myth. Even global Climate CHANGE that is primarily due to man is a myth. Of course man contributes to the changes in the ecosystem. ALL things do. The liberal/progressive alarmists/charlatans refuse to look at any other facts (geothermal processes as in the Antarctic; earth’s core movement; solar physics “we are now into a solar maunder minimum; plate tectonics; earth cycles; etc) other than ones that seem to support their agenda.

I've always said the biggest determinant of Earth's climate is this fireball 93 million miles away called the Sun. And given how the Sun's radition output can change a LOT depending on what point in the 11-year Solar Cycle, Earth can go from very cold to very hot pretty quickly and back.

Besides, plate tectonics has in geological time also determined Earth's climate, too. We forget that hundreds of millions of years ago, due to the position of the continents being mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, Earth was actually encased in ice possibly over a mile thick. And that only changed once plate tectonics moved the continents around and made it possible for that ice to melt.

They miss the fact that the area is called Tierra Del Fuego (land of fire).
