Throngs of impassioned fans of the US women's soccer team turned out early for a parade through New York City's Canyon of Heroes to celebrate the squad's victory at the Women's World Cup.
The parade-goers started gathering at 3,30am on Friday along the Canyon - a stretch of Broadway where the nation's largest city has honored its legends - in anticipation of the event's 11 am start.
Friday's celebration marked the first time New York City held a parade honoring a women's sports team.

How is this an affirmative action parade? The American team beat the best the world has to offer in a fair and square competition. You would have preferred that they lose? Why do you hate an American team?
I didn’t even know that girls played soccer, much less that they had some “world” competition of the female version of soccer.
American Women’s Soccer. Because lesbians need something besides the WNBA to root for.

FYI - the whole premise of them being first is absurdly off:

Besides Ederle:
September 10, 1926 Amelia Gade Corson, first mother and second woman to swim the English Channel
September 20, 1928 Aimé Tschiffely Swiss-Argentine Horse Rider from Buenos Aires to New York
June 20, 1932 Amelia Earhart Putnam following transatlantic flight.
July 11, 1957 Althea Gibson, winner of the Wimbledon women’s singles championship.
March 9, 1960 Carol Heiss, Olympic figure skating gold medalist.
Etc.
They won’t. Because it isn’t true.
America’s World Cup? I wore a cup when I played sports, but I had external plumbing.
Are these women baseball players transsexuals? Did they do something notable?
They worked hard for their victory and I am happy for them, but it’s not as if they’d defeated Hitler or gone to the moon or anything.
” Did they do something notable?’
—
Yes,they did.
They worked hard and are to be commended.
.
The’re somewhat correct as they said women ( plural ). They should have said “First women’s sports team...”
“This is female soccer, most of us didnt even know that this girl thing existed, and still dont know what the event is.
Yet here they are, getting a ticker tape parade.”
Maybe a reflection on “most of us.” They have been prominently on the world stage, since 1985.

President Reagan’s remarks about soccer in 1983, when sending the men’s team into World Cup contention.

I had to turn the radio OFF from the local news station, because NYC mayor DiBlahBlah turned this occasion into a libtard causes podium. He never spoke about their ability to play soccer well; instead, he brayed on and on about how great WOMEN are, diversity, equality, etc. He USED these gallant girls for his own sick political purposes. Too bad none of them appear to be black, or he would have droned on about black female soccer players and how wonderful they were. Or how wonderful women soccer players with type B blood are. Or those who are atheists, etc. Instead of praising the UNITY of the team, how they came together to create a formidable team, he was picking off the “other” points one by one. What a shameless hustler. No wonder he & Al Sharpton are such close pals. They share the same ideals: me, me, and me.
Gee, that makes everything totally different.
They must all make millions playing at their female version of soccer.
Another gay parade in NYC...wow, how different!
I believe this is the THIRD Women’s World Cup won by the US (and still nobody cares - it is a lower-speed, lower-skilled imitation of men’s soccer). I watched the final, and when one of the “men” kissed its “wife” we switched it off. The 1999 players must feel pretty dejected right about now; the deviants kept it in the closet, and when they won nobody gave them a parade...
All individuals. This was the first womens’ TEAM so honored.
Actually, there have also been parades for Olympic teams that included women so that premise isn’t accurate either.
“That market for womens soccer in the US, home of many of the best players in the world, is apparently salaries of $6,000-30,000 per player.”
“But why is the market so small? For one thing, the entire market for professional soccer in the US is small male players have minimum salaries of $36,500, and about a quarter of the MLS league makes less than $50,000 (though the top players make millions). For another, no one goes to games. Perhaps related, theres very little sponsorship. In other words, if more people were actually paying to watch women’s sports, the situation might be different.”
I’m not even sure what you are trying to convince me to believe.
Is it that women’s soccer is inconsequential, since they don’t make big money, they are of no merit?
At the time President Reagan paid his respects to our men’s team, the same could have been said of them.
The fact that they are inconsequential, is obvious, and the fact that they make less money than a McDonald’s worker, is a result of that.
