Word For The Day, Monday, 7/6/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
mien; noun
1. (literary) a person's manner, bearing, or appearance, expressing personality or mood: a noble mien
Etymology: "facial expression," 1510s, probably a shortening of Middle English demean "bearing, demeanor" (see demeanor ) and influenced by Middle French mine "appearance, facial expression," which is of unknown origin, possibly Celtic (cf. Breton min "beak, muzzle, nose," Irish men "mouth").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
When you think of the number of people who have born the brunt of the Catholic Church on marriage over the centuries, his attitude really seems like a cop out. I know that there are many couples who do not receive Communion because they are in a second marriage with no annulment.
My own grandmother married “out of the church” in 1911 because her fiance’s family hated Catholics. He was not an easy man to get along with and he abandoned the family more than once. When she sought advice fro the Catholic Church, they told her that if she divorced him, all of her children would be considered “illegitimate”. She hung in there and suffered terribly because of it. She never set foot in the Catholic Church again, but she followed all of its precepts and prayed its prayers until the day she died.
Forget the flag. He just needs a gun rack in the back window and maybe a sign on the back that says, “Don’t Mess with Texas”!
I wonder how many liberals know that Lincoln was planning to ship blacks back to Africa? They hail him as the savior of the black race and he wanted to be rid of them.
God’s truth does not change and it has to be taught. Sounds like they want to avoid it.
The Church is supposed to be our teacher and our guide, but they’ve been failing at the task for some time now.
You DO need to send Fr DeCelles’ homily to your priest and tell him that this is the proper response and he needs to man up.
Then ask him if that is the kind of redefinition the church could warm up to.

I felt moved to write an email to Father DeCelles himself just now, to let him know that unbeknownst to him, MANY benefit from his wisdom and preaching. I told him I sent links to his sermons to my own family, extended family and you guys who have priests who are less stout of heart than he is, and that you take solace from what he has to say. I figured he could use some lifting up since he may be getting pushback from his own parish for all I know.
Barack Hussein obama sometimes displays a professorial mien. But—as anyone with half a brain can see—he soon morphs into his rabble-rouser mode!!!!
Besides that, his brain was fried by drug abuse before he was 20, and he lacks the intellect to be either a professor or a President!
He is, however, a perfect puppet for whoever is feeding his teleprompter and formulating the administration’s policies and programs!!!!
That was a good idea. I DO love all his homilies. I don’t get anything remotely like that. Not that mine are as bad as AFTR’s.
What good are the priests doing by having their pews full of sinners who will not make it to heaven because the priests failed to lead them there? Just where are they leading them? Important questions. Jesus will be asking us, and them soon enough.
You glossed over the new truck. What kind? What options? Crew cab?
That was very thoughtful of you - I”m sure he appreciated hearing it. You never know how much a kind word can do for another person.
Nice Grimmy!
I failed to congratulate your son on his new truck! I miss having a truck in the family - once we moved to PA my guy started driving a car. He had one truck for a short time once we moved to Houston but it was a ford and he has just never had good luck with ford vehicles. Traded it within 8 months
Don’t you still have the Tahoe?
That’s more or less a truck.
I’m sorry you have had such a rough time of it lately. I hope things improve.
Amen!
Yes but it isn’t the same -
Thank you.
