ok, i saw the you-tube video of the guy's gun cam and it shows her ducking and turning away, the other video shows her shoot once then several times after he's down

Delayed reaction. This delay can be the same when confronted with a knife
or other object from an aggressor. The 30' rule means it takes time to react
and the distance gives you that moment to react. 30' means two seconds btw.
This is what I was taught anyway. Other trainers have different variations.
