The author does not understand that there are two parts to the NRA..

One is the NRA that we all know and appreciate as gun owners, hunters and enthusiasts, and the other is the fundraising arm of the association that is the same as any other fund raiser op and is often a royal pain in the posterior.

“I was amused, and then insulted, that someone would think I was dumb enough to fall for such a pitch”

1st of all, you are dumber than a box of hammers and they are, in fact, plotting to do just that.

2nd. Laws should be created to ensure another Gabby Giffords doesn’t happen? Murder is already against the law and looking for laws that result in “Absolute” solutions would reduce the rights of every other law abiding and moral person.

3rd. I doubt you were ever an NRA member and if you were it was a research thing for you and I don’t trust your fairytale story....

the author of this hit piece is most likely also the owner of a pair of pants, but that doesn’t make him a man

I left the NRA after they all the calls and mailings trying to get me to send them more money. I’m sure they spent a ton more than my initial contribution.

I don’t think that a rubber band gun is a real gun.

About the author, David Fellerath:
I’m interested in social history, anthropology and various strains of cooperative economics, libertarianism, socialism and anarchism. I used to be a serious film guy, writing reviews for INDY Week and attempting to make films myself. Now I just browse Netflix like everyone else. Also, I enjoy hunting and fishing, going to the ocean and going to the theater. I’m a reformed motorcyclist. I have a canoe and I’m learning to sail. I wish my Spanish, French and American Sign Language were better. I wish I read more books—maybe that will change. I’m married. A dog lived with us until she died, and we may adopt another....

....I’m politically unaffiliated, although I have several friends and acquaintances who are elected Democrats. I’m a co-owner of FC United of Manchester, a cooperatively owned English soccer club. I’m a board member of Triangle Soccer Fanatics, the independent supporters group for the Carolina RailHawks. More informally, I’m a board member of Orange County Adult Soccer League. I’m a 2014 graduate of Durham Neighborhood College. I’m a member of Durham County Wildlife Club and the Durham YMCA. I have a Duke spousal ID card, and I have a Costco card somewhere, too.

The only thing wrong with the NRA is that they're too wussified.

I'll take GOA or JPFO any say of the week...

Reminds me of comments to news articles where the commenter says something like “I used to be a conservative (or Republican) but...” and then launches into an anti-conservative rant.

“The NRA does not represent all gun owners, and it certainly doesn’t represent me.” SO move along agitprop. The NRA will still have enough funds to impact the election coming, and that must frost the behinds of those who lie and deceive in order to try and reduce impact of conservatism and lobbying groups opposed to the democrap agenda.

I did a little checking on your previous posts and then visited your BIO here on FR.

So, you are a Canadian and hates the NRA? Bought your first gun when Obama was elected? Have no idea how a culture like ours covets guns and the right of free speech and freedom?

Lecture those in Canada, not us. This is our country we are trying to save...not Canada. This is our battle to turn the tide of socialism/communism/marxism and political correctness so that we can take back the freedoms we were cheated out of over the past 40 years.

There is absolutely no way you can understand our way of life since you have not lived it.

The robo and recorded calling from the NRA is annoying. Not a good way to win people over.

The NRA does a good job in keeping the government from administratively erasing our Second Amendment rights and have done so for many years.

They are one of the few organizations which will stand toe to toe with legislators and the executive and simply say no.

I don’t disagree with their membership of 5 million as I know a number of people who are members who have never owned a gun. They feel that the 2nd Amendment is extremely important to the health of this country and its citizens and they put their money where their mouth is.

The number of gun owners is difficult to estimate but with the recent tsunami of gun sales, of which 30% appear to be first timers (FBI), my own estimate is about 120 million. A very large chunk of the electorate.

As to why the NRA is so dominant in the area of shooters organizations the answer is quite simple: They have been in existence since the 1870s, helping shooters to shoot safely and well, training our soldiers to shoot, sponsoring competitions and fostering the flow of information from experts to noobies. All this for 140 years or so.

This organization along some newer ones which have recently been formed such as the GOA (and which we welcome to the fray, numbers do indeed count) represent me and my family and they do it well. Some of their decisions are ones with which I disagree, but their actions are ones with which I mostly agree. Some of their actions could be described as tactical retreats but they are winning this war against those who would take our rights.

So I will continue to support the NRA as I have in the past.

The mail doesn’t bother me one bit. It is effective.

This *sshole can get down on his knees and thank the NRA that there’s ANYTHING left of the Second Amendment.

They’ve been fighting gun grabbers since before he was born.
