I doubt it. If you read the article it mentions that Ronny tried to use it as a symbol for heritage, but was acutely aware, as are most southerners that the image has been corrupted, and taken over by hate groups. That’s why the whole subject was mostly ignored until the yankee liberal media started stirring the pot again.
Also, Ronny wasn’t exactly a staunch conservative. Ever listen to the song “Saturday Night Special”?
Don’t get me wrong. I liked Skynyrd before the crash, even liked Rossington Collins Band, but using them to further a conservative argument is inaccurate on it’s face.
