Word For The Day, Monday, 6/29/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
obdurate, adj.
1. unmoved by persuasion, pity, or tender feelings; stubborn; unyielding.
2. stubbornly resistant to moral influence; persistently impenitent: an obdurate sinner
Etymology: 1400-1450 1400-50; late Middle English obdurat < Latin obdūrātus (past participle of obdūrāre to harden), equivalent to ob- ob- + dūr (us) hard + -ātus -ate1
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
the abomininations on TV will proliferate now, bc why not.
That's turning the clock back to mideival practice, although even though the girls could be betrothed, and/or married that young, ususally there was a signed agreement between families that intercourse ("bedding") would not take place until she was 13, or 14.
A+++ so much disaster. We haven’t even mentioned the terrorist attack in Tunisia.
I would say “Modern Family” did more to mainstream a homosexual couple.
All-in-all I am libertarian on this. Sure, it’s a sign of moral decay, but we are dedicated to the proposition of the pursuit of happiness.
That is all assuming that the rights of everyone are respected. Including the right to freely not associate. We will see trouble here.
I told my daughter that people don’t have a right to not be offended. That includes those who are offended by a flag as much as it does those who are offended by two men kissing.
it’s been the drip, drip, drip of popular culture, the cumulative effect that has wrought the change. it’s one the reasons I cannot bear to watch anything on TV and haven’t for years.
And Paris again. (Of course "terrorist attacks" with guns don't happen anywhere except the USA. O told me so just last week.)
Heavy sarcasm off!
I am not offended by homosexuality, I am offended by their jamming it in our face and demanding not acceptance, but celebration. THAT has been happening, will only be ramped up and as Meghan McCain tweeted this past weekend, the republican party has to “get in line” or I suppose we will end up in re-education camps, or sued into penury.
If I didn’t occasionally watch HGTV or FOX, I would get rid of my TVs and those bills. Not really worth it for how little I watch of it. I sometimes go a week or more without turning it on.
fox and sports and with hockey being over, there is precious little else that interests me. the tv will be off more now.
you can't seriously believe that will happened, can you? the drumbeat for removing the tax-exempt status for churches began immediately.
This priest threw aside his original homily after the decision and spoke about gay marriage. He named names and took no prisoners.
I agree.
We need to play up the “do what you want” attitude and not the “disgusted by homos” attitude.
I don’t think it matters which attitude is played, our view will NEVER be respected.
the sermon is excellent, pointing out the responsibility of the CHURCH and the schism that is coming.
two gays spat on Father Jonathan Morris in NYC, did you see that tweet? just walking by, spat on him— bc of his clerical garb and what he represents.
Yeah. Seems they don’t know that the chance of any random priest being a homo are pretty high.
That’s the church, I don’t know who the priest was, though.
interesting that the pastor is married and a former Anglican.
It is.
