If the ordinance is passed, homeowners who do not comply could face fines of up to $50

That's why they want this. The vehicles are on private property leave them alone.

They want to do this so they can scan the plate numbers.

In the 80s I had a cop wake me up at 5 in the morning to give me a ticket for parking my pick up in my parents’ backyard it being illegal to park a truck on the street. He took a traffic citation and scratched out traffic and wrote zoning. As he was writing out the ticket he asked if I had anything to say? I asked if this is what he imagined doing the first day of the police academy. He was not pleased.

I live in an association controlled environment. Like the government, once they get control you have no control over your property.

Fact: Jury duty at the courthouse

Free parking at garage. $45 fine if you back in.

Potential juror asks why.

"So we can scan your plates."

License plate scanners.

Reason number 72 why I’ll never live where there is a homeowners assoc.

The vehicles are on private property leave them alone.

Private property, what an outdated concept. This is the 21st century. You have a driveway only because the various governments above you choose to allow you to have a driveway.

That would have shocked anyone from the year 1900. But as I noted, this is the 21st century. Just be happy the Supreme Court hasn't outlawed the whole private property concept (yet).

What happens if you have a garage? Do you have to leave the door open?

"Supporters say the ordinance is needed in order for officers to issue citations for abandoned vehicles, the Florida Times-Union reported."

The officers can get their flabby butts out of their cars, walk to the front of the vehicles, and write the citations.

Also you will have to have your curtains open at all times.
Also random searches of your property.

Instead of the three bogus reasons given in paragraph two, why don’t they just say the purpose of the ordinance is “economy of LEO time” or something similar.
IOW, the cops don’t want to heft their body armor & donut-raddled, sweating buttocks out of the air conditioned cruiser to walk up driveways around to the front of the vehicles.

Kid dinged up the front end of the car once...and drove it without water. I took the motor to the machine shop and parked the car with the wrecked side facing away from the street. It was a beautiful car, and I didnt think it would bother anyone stting there. Apparently a neighbor complained and I got a letter. I called the city.

Me: Whats wrong with my car in the driveway?

City: Its inoperable and thats a fire hazard.

Me: I dont have anywhere else to put it

City: Put it in your garage

Me: But you said it was a fire hazard

City: Not in your garage

I moved out of the city shortly after that.

A city around here tried a similar thing a few years back with an ordinance saying homeowners could park on their driveways only. Parking on their lawns was punishable by a fine. It didn’t go over so well.

“Supporters say the ordinance is needed in order for officers to issue citations for abandoned vehicles...”

If the vehicle is on the owner’s private property, then by definition, it isn’t abandoned.

The house # is not sufficient. They need to see the plate numbers to identify who owns it and if money's owed some agency. Everyone and everything has a number. They need our numbers. And when they go to court they'll want more numbers in addition to cash. Checks and credit cards are accepted too! ☺

No, it is all about tracking people. Who is associating with who, who can be blackmailed into compliance.
